Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is still available as a free agent Formula 1 executive, and among the teams in the paddock, a move to Aston Martin has been heavily rumored.
Horner has been out of the sport for more than a year at this point, and despite a wide range of speculation, he does not have a job yet.
Among his options, he is thought to be pursuing an ownership stake in a team, either by joining a bid to buy a team or creating a 12th entry on the grid.
However, his bid to buy Alpine and possibly take over the racing project has seemingly fizzled, while a possible 12th team remains unlikely for at least a few years, if even possible at all.

Given the lack of moving parts in his other options for returning to F1, Horner’s best shot may be to join a team that needs leadership — Aston Martin.
Lawrence Stroll has invested big into the team, but they have not gotten much in terms of results and need a team principal to lead the project.
However, despite the clear opening, Horner is going to have a tough time entering the picture.

According to Giuliano Duchessa of AutoRacer IT, Adrian Newey, the legendary car designer who left Red Bull after years of dominance, is a cog in the wheel.
“Regardless of who the driver will be, Aston Martin will also have to clarify another aspect: its leadership . While Adrian Newey is now the undisputed technical reference for the project, the overall leadership of the team still seems to be unclear,” Duchessa wrote, translated from Italian to English.
“Christian Horner’s name continues to be linked to the Silverstone team, but Lawrence Stroll is said to be in a delicate position. It’s hard to imagine Newey and Horner on the same hierarchical level, and according to leaks from the paddock, the former Red Bull team principal would be unlikely to accept direct superiors.
“His idea would instead be to report directly to a board or enter the project with a shareholding, following a model similar to the one built by Toto Wolff at Mercedes.”
If the money is right and Stroll really wants to nab Horner, the team can likely make it work; however, for the sake of harmony and chemistry, they may end up looking elsewhere despite Horner’s track record.
