I wonder if they are talking about some posters on this site?:

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/Whispers/2008/whispers030808.htm

For reasons our Cardinals sources just can’t seem to understand, we’re told that starting OLG Reggie Wells has become a bit of a whipping boy for the team’s fan base. “It’s really kind of bizarre,” one team insider told PFW. “The coaches all consider him the team’s most consistent lineman, but Reggie just isn’t real popular.”

More info on our QB situation:

We hear the Cardinals have an interest in bringing back Tim Hasselbeck to compete for the No. 3 QB job with either a late-round draft pick or a rookie free agent. As for Tim Rattay, word is he’s probably out of the picture.

I think it was en fuego or someone who said it best. Maybe we should stop trying to replace the lineman that two different respected OLINE coaches have considered one of their most important pieces. Maybe we don't know as much as we like to think we do.

I'm not surprised.

A lot of people on this board rip Wells' play eventhough they don't know anything about lineplay or even bother to give some argumentation for ripping him.

I back my opinion on the plays where he is blown into the backfield, or when he pulls and doesn't block anyone.

But since PFW is SUCH a football hotspot I guess I am wrong. Along with the fact they probably know as much about Cardinals football as the rest of the national media......which ain't much.

Furthermore, know where in this article does it quote Whiz or Grimm, and going even further I know I have heard the coaches call Wells atheletic but I have never heard him referred as an important piece of the offensive line.

Maybe I am wrong.

How could we give up on Rattay? Wasn't his QB rating through the roof last year? ;)

I do find it curious that the coaching staff apparently prefers Hasselbeck to Rattay...neither is anything special but Rattay has at least some starting experience. I'd much rather draft some guy late or grab a couple of Arena Ball guys to compete for the #3 spot though.

More than a few people have commented on Wells whiffing when asked to block in space.

When you are watching Alan Faneca you know you are watching a good guard. Same with Steve Hutchinson. I mean, are the things that Reggie Wells does so subtle that people watching at home can't pick them up?

Or maybe it's a bit unfair to say someone is no good if they don't measure up to perennial pro bowlers ...

I think we probably do miss a lot of the little things he does but it's pretty obvious when he just gets overwhelmed at the point of attack. To be fair to Reggie it seemed to happen much less this past year.

I remember a couple of years ago when he was starting at guard when he looked like he was on roller skates he was going backward so fast. He seemed to get knocked back pretty regularly. Again to be fair he was much better last season.

I think the board as a whole overrates Duece because he is a local, and we dont know much yet about Brown. Johnson and Siendlien (?) played well and I guess I am in the minority who thought Gandy was damn good last year. Someone has to catch the heat, so why not Reggie?? :)

I am with you on this Rugby. Wells gets blown up a lot and has very little to no push on running plays. He is better suited to play tackle because of his ability to pass block, but his run blocking at tackle is below average. Of course this is only my opinion based on watching all the games this season and many over the past years. He is good for a backup position based on his versatility, but is not starting material.

But the point is that they are the measuring stick.

However, I do think Wells improved over the course of the year. But we are still far from set in the middle of our line.

Hypothetical Situation:

IF Faneca was brought in by the Cardinals, who do you think the coaches would have sat ?

I would think Reggie Wells would have been benched for him. They doesn't say much for a so called "key to the OL".

Wells is a fine OL, but he is our weak link when it comes to running the ball. He is a Tackle playing at guard IMO.

Why No Love?

I think the fans recognize that Reggie is a very versatile member of the OL, and thus very valuable. However, on this Board, IMO, if you took a poll, more posters would have him playing at OT, rather than at OG. And when we complain that he's not being tried at OT, then it's seen as "Hating". I'm glad we have him, but feel his best position is tackle, but if the coaches say it's guard, then I'll go along. But keep in mind that coaches said that Rolle was a CB and not a S, for quite a while, also. And then there was Corey Chavous. Sometimes, the fans do know what they're talking about.

What I find interesting is why then was Rattay getting snaps under center if they thought Hasselbeck is better?

If they would have brought in Faneca, I think Deuce would have been the odd man out.

Raise your hand if you think it hysterical the amount of emphasis we as a group put on third string QB's. Fair statement to say you can urinate on the fire cause the hunt is over if we are down to the third stringers.

Well Buffalo thought enough of Wells to make him a decent offer as an RFA and we know that Green Bay was courting him as well.

Hey, people on this board hated Leonard Davis with a passion and wanted him gone gone gone. Now he's playing the correct position and spending Februarys in Hawaii. Go figure!

I don't claim to know more than anyone else on here but I trust the coaches opinion.

Kent Somers made it pretty clear that from what he was hearing if Faneca was signed it would be Lutui to the bench not Wells.
