Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s ‘ignorant’ dig at Alexi Lalas shows he is tired of his Fox Sports colleague

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had the final word in a heated debate after Alexi Lalas reignited questions over whether France had been arrogant during their World Cup opener against Senegal.

The topic first surfaced at half-time when Landon Donovan criticised France’s first-half approach, calling them “arrogant” and “casual” after a goalless opening 45 minutes.

Thierry Henry pushed back during the broadcast, but the debate continued after France eventually won 3-1 thanks to a much-improved second-half display.

Alexi Lalas revisited the France arrogance debate after the final whistle​

Following France’s 3-1 win, Fox Sports analyst Alexi Lalas brought the topic back into focus.

“We had that nice little fun back and forth between Landon and Thierry about whether the French were arrogant in the first half,” Lalas said.

While acknowledging Henry’s perspective, Lalas suggested that France’s talent gives them a margin for error that few other national teams enjoy.

“We can have that discussion but the reality is that if they are arrogant, it’s because they can do things like that. The patience that they showed after a poor first half to come back and provide a masterful second half with the talent that they have, and the big stars showing up, that’s pretty special.”

Lalas’ remarks came after Henry had already pushed back strongly earlier in the coverage.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic then delivered the sharpest response of the night​

While Henry had defended France by pointing to Senegal’s quality, Ibrahimovic was considerably more direct when asked for his thoughts.

The former Sweden international completely rejected the idea that France’s performance was rooted in arrogance.

“It’s not arrogance, it’s confidence. Ignorant people will say it’s arrogance, intelligent people will say it’s confidence.”

Ibrahimovic never mentioned Lalas or Donovan by name, but given the context, many viewers saw his remarks as a direct response to their earlier criticism.

France’s dominant second-half display, led by Kylian Mbappe, seemed to support Henry’s view. But it was Ibrahimovic’s blunt comment that stood out in the post-match coverage.
