Zinedine Zidane appointed new France head coach
France have officially appointed Zinedine Zidane as their new national team head coach, ending years of speculation over the legendary midfielder's return to Les Bleus.
The 54-year-old succeeds Didier Deschamps, who stepped down following France's fourth-place finish at the 2026 World Cup after 14 years in charge. Deschamps leaves as one of the most successful coaches in the nation's history, having guided France to World Cup glory in 2018 and another final in 2022.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Zidane now takes charge of the country he captained to World Cup and European Championship triumphs. His coaching résumé is equally impressive, having won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns during two spells in charge of Real Madrid.
Zidane's first challenge will be leading France into the Nations League before turning his attention to qualifying for EURO 2028, with a squad still boasting world-class talent including Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni and William Saliba.
