The Baltimore Ravens have made plenty of important contract decisions in recent years. Lamar Jackson received his franchise-quarterback money. Kyle Hamilton earned a lucrative extension. Derrick Henry was brought in to help elevate the offense. The next major decision appears obvious.

Pay Zay Flowers.

The former first-round draft pick has quickly developed into one of Baltimore's most important offensive players. Since arriving as the 22nd overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, Flowers has earned two Pro Bowl selections and established himself as Lamar Jackson's most reliable receiving option. Now, a lucrative payday appears to be on the horizon.

The Ravens have already shown their seriousness

ESPN recently published a league-wide look at potential contract extensions, and Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley suggested it wouldn't be surprising if Baltimore and Flowers reached an agreement before the start of the regular season.

"It wouldn't be surprising if Flowers and the Ravens reach an extension before the start of the season, which is exactly what happened with safety Kyle Hamilton last year... General manager Eric DeCosta believes it's important to keep Flowers, who has developed into a leader on offense."

In many ways, Baltimore's intentions have already been revealed. Earlier this offseason, the Ravens exercised Flowers' fifth-year option, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season.

While that move eliminated any immediate urgency, it also signaled how highly the organization values its young receiver. Flowers has stated that he wants to be a Raven for life, and it is believed that Baltimore wants him around for the foreseeable future.

Zay Flowers is becoming one of the NFL's elite receivers

In today's NFL, where players and organizations often keep negotiations private, that type of mutual interest stands out. The only real debate revolves around cost. Hensley believes Flowers could command a contract averaging more than $35 million annually. If that projection proves accurate, it would place him among the highest-paid wide receivers in football. Considering the market, that number shouldn't surprise anyone. Elite receivers are being compensated at historic levels, and Flowers has done everything necessary to justify joining that group.

Beyond his production, he has emerged as one of the leaders of Baltimore's offense and developed a strong connection with Jackson. Those qualities are difficult to replace, so an extension feels more like a matter of when than if. The Ravens have built their roster around a handful of foundational players. Jackson is one. Hamilton is another. Flowers increasingly belong in that conversation as well.

That's why Hensley's prediction feels less like speculation and more like an acknowledgment of where things are headed. The Ravens already know what they have in Flowers. He has made it clear he wants to stay. At this point, the only thing left to determine is how many years and how many dollars it will take to keep one of Baltimore's brightest young stars in purple for the foreseeable future.
