The Marion-area winter sports scene is fully engaged as matches, meets and games are filling the dates ahead of the holidays.
To recognize the best achievements of the last week, the Marion Star is offering a pair of athlete of the week polls for boys and girls. Fans can vote as often as allowed for the boy and girl who they think had the best performance.
The polls can be found here at MarionStar.com and its app and will be live through early morning of Monday, Dec. 22.
Here are this week's nominees:
Fahey Bank Award story: Winning follows Pleasant's Kam Roberts, winner of the Fahey Bank Award
Another Fahey Bank Award story: Football decisions lead Evan Ricketts to the Fahey Bank Award
Mount Gilead swimmer Abby Griffith won the 200-yard individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay during a meet MG hosted at the Marion Family YMCA.
River Valley wrestler Val Riegel finished eighth at 105 pounds at the Women of Ironman at Walsh Jesuit, a nationally recognized event.
Pleasant basketball's Brooklin Davis scored 19 points with seven steals and four assists in a win over Ontario.
Ridgedale basketball's Camryn Thiel produced 17 points and six assists in a loss to Elgin.
Elgin basketball's Maycee Muselin scored 36 points with 4 of 7 shooting from 3-point range and adding five steals in a win over Galion.
Northmor basketball's Madi See put up 17 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Cardington.
Cardington basketball's Jill Bertke pulled down 22 rebounds and scored 15 points in a win over Danville.
Mount Gilead swimmer Jaxon Tinch won the 50-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 medley relay and was third in the 200 free relay during a meet MG hosted at the Marion Family YMCA.
Ridgedale basketball's Evan Ricketts scored 27 points with four 3-pointers in a win over Perry.
North Union basketball's Dainon Lindsey scored 22 points in the team's first game of the season, a win over Benjamin Logan.
Marion Harding bowler Talan Watkins rolled a 216-189 405 series in a win over Ridgedale.
River Valley wrestler Karson Jenkins won the 120-pound weight class with four pins and a technical fall at the Elgin Comet Christmas Classic.
Elgin wrestler Gavin Luikart won the 144-pound weight class with three pins, an 11-6 semifinal victory and an 11-10 finals victory at the Elgin Comet Christmas Classic.
Northmor wrestler Carson Campbell won the 165-pound weight class with four pins and a technical fall at the Elgin Comet Christmas Classic.
Highland wrestler Kasey Clark won the 144-pound weight class at the Jeremy Ammons Kilted Klassic at Highland.
River Valley basketball's Gracie Beechum, who scored 10 of her 18 points in the final three minutes including the game-winning buzzer-beater over Pleasant, earned 397 of 894 votes for 44 percent to win last week's girls poll.
Other girls poll nominees were North Union basketball's Kailin McElroy, Muselin, Bertke, Pleasant basketball's Annie Green, Northmor basketball's Shelby Cooper, Ridgedale basketball's Maddie McKenzie and Mount Gilead basketball's Danielle Pohlkotte.
River Valley basketball's Carter Myers, who scored 29 points with nine rebounds in a win over Pleasant, earned 339 of 615 votes for 55 percent to win last week's boys poll.
Other boys poll nominees were Elgin wrestler Cooper Schlaegel, Cardington wrestler Dylan Compton, Highland basketball's Ja'Kai Wilson and Mount Gilead basketball's Gage Baker.
