You’re giving Keim more credit than he deserves.

Below are all 42 of his draft picks dating back to 2013. Now to his credit, he has had success with free agent signings, although most have been on one year contracts so most never made more than a one year impact.

Looking at the list below, you could argue of those 42 players, only 3 have truly been “impact” players (Tyrann Mathieu, John Brown, & David Johnson)

2018 1 Josh Rosen
2018
2 Christian Kirk
2018
3 Mason Cole

5 or 6 players out of 42 picks. Seems pretty poor to me!

I would argue that Rosen, Kirk, DJ, HB, Smoke, & Golden are those 6.

Now compare this to the other 31 teams in the league & you'll see it's average.

it would explain the volatility

the best drafted players pre-date Keim (Peterson and Fitz), or, were free agents or trades.

So, Keim gets credit for FA and Trades -- but vs drafted players, they are more expensive (see -- Chandler Jones).

by patching draft holes with more expensive players, you are tight cap wise relative to other teams.

This means its harder to keep a Calais Campbell as an example (the fact that other interesting contract decisions were made that compounded the cap situation didn't help)

if he stays its better quitting following this team
the bidwill has to fire keim for the sake of the fanbase
he cant ignore how much bad he drafted since he was hired as GM
couple of good 1 year prove it deals and the acquisition of chandler jones doesnt hide the trash he selected

Let's look at it from this perspective

These players are still in the league.

Earl Watford
Alex Okafor
Tyrann Mathieu
Kevin Minter
Jonathan Cooper
Logan Thomas
John Brown
Kareem Martin
Deone Bucannon
JJ Nelson
Rodney Gunter
David Johnson
Markus Golden
DJ Humphries
Cole Toner
Marqui Christian
Evan Boehm
Brandon Williams
Robert Nkemdiche
Rudy Ford
TJ Logan
Will Holden
Chad Williams
Budda Baker
Hasson Reddick
Korey Cunningham
Chase Edmonds
Mason Cole
Christian Kirk
Josh Rosen

Not terrible. Also consider that we signed Tony Jefferson as an UDFA.

Maybe they aren't home runs, but Keim has drafted NFL level players. Maybe he needs to get better at keeping them around.

Yeah there’s definitely been more than 3 players make solid contributions...But not many to do it for more than one season. I’m very hopeful Kirk will become one of those players that make an impact over multiple seasons.

Everyone is in the same boat. Six years running, a few stars. Maybe a third of the guys stick somewhere in the league. That's it. It's a total crapshoot. Keim has done alright in the draft. Only thing is lack of production from first rounders relative to middle rounders, but everyone is constantly whiffing.

AZ: for each of the teams you noted -- you can go year by year in and find that each found a starting caliber player in nearly every one of those drafts -- and the "0-fers" are the exception rather than the rule

further -- each of those teams have kept 90% of the winners

You can say it till your blue in the face, guys here have no clue when it comes to the draft. They live in a fantasy world where you draft all pros every year in every round.

You just pointed out 3 teams with reputations for having great front offices and guess what there drafts suck probably worst than ours.

It's a total crap shoot. But let's not look at this with logic and reason lets just pander for likes

Let's look at it from this perspective

These players are still in the league.

Earl Watford
Alex Okafor
Tyrann Mathieu
Kevin Minter
Jonathan Cooper
Logan Thomas
John Brown
Kareem Martin
Deone Bucannon
JJ Nelson
Rodney Gunter
David Johnson
Markus Golden
DJ Humphries
Cole Toner
Marqui Christian
Evan Boehm
Brandon Williams
Robert Nkemdiche
Rudy Ford
TJ Logan
Will Holden
Chad Williams
Budda Baker
Hasson Reddick
Korey Cunningham
Chase Edmonds
Mason Cole
Christian Kirk
Josh Rosen

Not terrible. Also consider that we signed Tony Jefferson as an UDFA.

Maybe they aren't home runs, but Keim has drafted NFL level players. Maybe he needs to get better at keeping them around.
Excellent post and exactly how I look at it.

I literally just looked up the first respectable team off the top of my head, the Kansas City Chiefs. Nice try, but here are their draft picks since 2013, the year Keim took over. Among the list of stud players includes Patrick Mahomes, Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, Marcus Peters, Travis Kelce, Eric Fisher...

I think the very valid concern with Keim is that he does poorly with 1-2 round picks, basically overdrafts or doesnt weigh correctly for injury concerns. Rounds 3 down, he is above average. If he took the Seahawks route and traded out if the first and went for quantity, that may be a better approach for him.

Yea, I’m really interested what his board looks like.

I remember Markus Golden was a projected late 3rd, 4th rounder damn near every where & yet he drafted him in the 2nd. It’s not a bad pick in hindsight, but still.

The Monday night game just showed a graphic where the Raiders have 12 players on their roster from the 2012-2017 drafts. This was the 3rd lowest figure in the league.

my quick calc shows the Cards have 14 on their roster during this period -- so likely bottom 1/3 of the league. Maybe is should be 15 given the trade for Chandler Jones.

Still -- it seems like another metric that says the Cards either havent drafted well or let guys who can play leave for nothing

Keim goes along with Wilks as soon as the season is over.

Leave both of their asses off the plane in Seattle.

AZ: for each of the teams you noted -- you can go year by year in and find that each found a starting caliber player in nearly every one of those drafts -- and the "0-fers" are the exception rather than the rule

further -- each of those teams have kept 90% of the winners

further, each of those teams snagged at least 8 starters from 2013-2018 that are STILL starting to this day... on good teams.

We have 7 starters... three of them rookies this year, 2 of whom (Rosen/Cole) who have been forced into duty because of the suckage in front of them at the beginning of the year and neither of which has proven they belong in the league as starters. Hopefully moving forward they do, especially Rosen, but to call them good picks at this point is premature.

basically, what those long lists of other teams' drafts show is each one has gotten at least a LONG-TERM starter or two per draft, on consistently good teams, which means they're an additive value.

And the one team who seems pretty bare is the Packers, a team that everyone has said has drafted poorly the last couple years and you see it with the product on the field as they've been an average to barely above average at best team the last three years.

Marcus Peters was a bust for them and isn't on the team anymore and Eric Fischer is nowhere near as good as justifying being the #1 pick in the draft.

Mahomes and Kelce look like studs
