Yankees promote former Giants top prospect with 10 home runs to Triple-A originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There are dozens of players in minor league baseball who are too good for Triple-A but not talented enough to last long in the Majors.
Many people on social media call them "quadruple-A" players.
A former San Francisco Giants top prospect is doing his best to get another chance in the Majors after failing to live up to expectations on his first go-round.
On Friday, the Yankees announced that second baseman and outfielder Marco Luciano was promoted from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 24-year-old was claimed off waivers by the Yankees during the offseason, and it may turn out to be a sneaky good move.
Luciano hit 10 home runs, recorded 23 RBIs, and slashed .327/.410/.713 in 28 games in Double-A. He is now one step closer to making it back to the Majors for the first time since 2024 with the Giants, who may have given up on him too soon.

In 126 trips to the plate from 2023-24 with San Francisco, Luciano hit .217/.286/.304 with eight doubles and a 35.7% strikeout rate.
It's not out of the realm of thinking that Luciano gets the call from the Yankees at some point this year. However, he is certainly behind Anthony Volpe and George Lombard Jr. on the shortstop depth chart.
