Yankees claim former Giants top prospect off waivers from Orioles originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees have been adding some cheaper talent to the roster this offseason, with their lone big move being Cody Bellinger coming back on a five-year deal.
Every other addition has been a cheap contract or a waiver claim. That trend has carried through their most recent move, which is a fun addition of a former top prospect.
According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Yankees have claimed the former top San Francisco Giants prospect off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, adding Marco Luciano to the Yankees roster.
Yankees claim former Giants top prospect from Orioles
"The Yankees claimed Marco Luciano off waivers from the Orioles," Murray reported Thursday afternoon.
This addition from the Yankees is not a major one, as Luciano hasn't panned out as many expected. Luciano was regarded as the Giants' top prospect in 2022, and one of their best in 2023 and 2024.
Luciano was one of the more highly regarded prospects in Major League Baseball in 2022, 2023, and 2024, but after making his MLB debut in 2023 and playing a bit more in 2024, Luciano fell out of favor with most prospect evaluators.

The infielder/outfielder appeared in 41 games over two seasons and hit .217 with a .590 OPS for the Giants. Luciano wasn't good enough to stick in the Majors, and after a 2025 season in Triple-A, hitting .214 with a .748 OPS, he was let go.
Luciano was then claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates for a brief period of time in December, before eventually being released and claimed by the Orioles.
ABltiomre held onto him for a little while, releasing him in mid-January. The Yankees have now stepped in and claimed the former Giants top prospect, as Luciano continues to bounce around the Major Leagues.
