NEW YORK - Ali Sanchez hasn't played in a big-league game since last Sept. 13, when he was with the Red Sox, in a game against the Yankees at Fenway Park.
Well, the right-handed hitting catcher is back in the majors, with the Yankees.
And he's in Saturday night's lineup against the Red Sox, catching Yanks' starter Will Warren (7-1, 3.22 ERA), with lefty Ranger Suarez (2-3, 3.38 ERA) starting for Boston.
Sanchez was called up and lefty-hitting catcher J.C. Escarra was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, having batted .177 (11-for-62) with a .493 OPS in 22 games with the 2026 Yankees.
Whether this is a straight platoon with Sanchez, 29, and Austin Wells - or if Sanchez can get some run as a starter - remains to be seen.
But there's at least an opportunity here for Sanchez, with Wells batting .166 (.533 OPS) in 47 games and currently in a 1-for-18 slide with seven strikeouts.
In 40 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year, Sanchez was batting .227 with a .702 OPS and six home runs.
Here is tonight's Yankees lineup:
