Yankees announce lineup vs Mariners for Thursday as Max Fried starts

NEW YORK - This was a genuine outburst Wednesday night from a stalled-for-too-long Yankees lineup.

In a 10-5 win against Seattle, the Yanks had 13 hits - eight of them for extra bases - and put together some important at-bats, especially Spencer Jones' pair of run-scoring doubles.

"More encouraging signs,'' said manager Aaron Boone, who felt the turn occurred during Saturday's 5-4 win against the Braves' Chris Sale.

Now, the Yanks - six games back of the red-hot Rays in the AL East - are in position for a three-game home sweep of Seattle, with Max Fried opposing Mariners' right-hander Logan Gilbert on Thursday afternoon.

Matchup wise, Victor Robles has given Fried (4-3, 2.88) some trouble, batting .310 against the lefty in 29 career at-bats.

Of note against Gilbert (8-7, 3.42), Boone has elevated George Lombard Jr. to No. 5 in Thursday's order, with Jose Caballero getting an outfield start over the slumping Heliot Ramos and Ali Sanchez catching the day game after a night game for the surging Austin Wells.
