David Riley’s squad matched their season-high in three-pointers made on Saturday, splashing 16 shots from downtown, besting the Portland Pilots 104-74. It’s their second triple-digit scoring game under Riley, their first this season.
Eemli Yalaho led the charge for the Cougs, hitting five treys and scoring 26 points, both marking career highs. Rihards Vavers continued his hot shooting, scoring 18 points and splashing four three-pointers.
The Cougars controlled this game from start to finish against the undermanned Pilots. While the Pilots were able to keep things tight in the early stages, a 8-0 WSU run near the midway point in the first half flipped the narrow lead over to WSU, who would hold that lead for the remainder of the game. Six different Cougars ended up cashing in from downtown as the Cougars cruised to a home weekend sweep.
On top of the incredible amount of threes WSU hit, they only turned the ball over on 11.4% of possessions, their third-lowest mark of the season!
The win moves WSU into fifth in the WCC standings with a chance to be tied for fourth with the Pacific Tigers if they lose to the San Francisco Dons later tonight.
