KALAMAZOO — No. 6 seed Eaton Rapids picked up victories in five of the first six matches on its way to a 33-32 victory over No. 3 seed Algonac in a Division 2 state quarterfinal on Friday, Feb. 27, at Wings Event Center.
Jamison Brown earned a win by fall at 285, Jameson Onstott won by technical fall at 113 and Donny Hoyt won by major decision at 190 to lead the Greyhounds (38-5) in their strong start.
Maiko Sherman (106) and Nicholas Wade (120) also earned early wins for Eaton Rapids, which led 21-6 after six matches.
Gavin Pickott (150), Mike Capates (157) and Brayden Thorn (138) were the other wrestlers to earn wins for the Greyhounds. Thorn earned a win by fall for Eaton Rapids, which advances to face No. 2 seed Three Rivers in a semifinal at noon Feb. 28.
LAKEWOOD 32, MONTROSE 27
Bryson Boucher, Vincenr Risk and Owen Prowdley each picked up wins to close the dual while lifting the No. 4 seed Vikings to a win over No. 5 seed Montrose in a Division 3 quarterfinal.
Lakewood trailed 27-20 entering the final three matches when it got wins by decision from Boucher at 165 and Prowdley at 190 and a win by fall by Risk at 175.
Dakota Harmer (106) and Oliver Johnson (126) won by major decision and Vincent Stamm picked up a victory by fall at 132 for Lakewood. The other winners for the Vikings were Stephen Aldrich at 120 and Bryce Goodemoot at 144.
Lakewood advances to face top seed Dundee in a semifinal at noon Feb. 28.
