The final day of the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals will conclude with a pair of blockbuster matches involving two frontrunners and two dark horses.
England face Norway in a match that could be defined by two superstar forwards: Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. Both strikers have been in rich goalscoring form at the World Cup so far, dragging their respective teams to the final eight. Jude Bellingham and Martin Ødegaard aren’t bad either.
Finally, Argentina’s World Cup defence will continue against Switzerland on the back of two less-than-convincing knockout round wins over Cape Verde and Egypt. Switzerland, meanwhile, have flown under the radar and are on the brink of their first ever World Cup semi-final.

What to watch for
If there was any doubt about Norway’s threat at this World Cup, their last-16 win over Brazil surely dispelled that. With Haaland leading the line, Ødegaard driving forward from central midfield and the likes of Oscar Bobb and Andreas Schjelderup as options off the bench, Norway could turn a first-ever World Cup quarter-final into a first-ever World Cup semi-final.
England demonstrated guts to get past Mexico at Estadio Azteca, but the reality is that Thomas Tuchel’s team must find an even higher level to reach the semi-final. That should be possible for a side of England’s talent, but Tuchel’s general approach hasn’t always resulted in the most fluid of attacking play.
Player to watch: Erling Haaland, Norway – Brazil found out to their cost what happens when Haaland is afforded too much time and space around the penalty area. England can’t make the same mistake, although stopping Haaland is much easier said than done.

What to watch for
As long as Argentina have Lionel Messi, they have a chance of retaining the title they won in Qatar three-and-a-half years ago. As a unit, though, La Albiceleste have looked vulnerable in their knockout matches against Cape Verde and Egypt, needing a late comeback from 2-0 down against the latter to make it this far.
Switzerland ground out a last-16 victory over Colombia on penalties. Murat Yakin’s side may choose a similarly conservative approach against Argentina especially with Johan Manzambi expected to miss out again through injury. Switzerland’s best chance of victory will come if they can make this a slog.
Player to watch: Lionel Messi, Argentina – Even at age 39, Messi might still be the best in the world. Without his eight goals in five games, Argentina might not have made it this far. Whenever Messi takes to the field, watch.
