Fans of the Boston Celtics in the city of Worcester may notice a change to their transportation infrastructure with a decidedly Celtics-oriented rebranding this week. According to recent reporting from John Budenas of local news outlet WWLP, the state has renamed a bridge in town "Bob Cousy Pass" (we see what they did there, and approve of the pun).
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was present, as was the man himself despite inching closer to his century mark in age by the day at age 97. Local leaders, state transportation officials, and of course fans were also on site to fete Cooz with the moniker change. "Bob Cousy changed the game of basketball forever, but his impact reaches far beyond the court," said Healy. "He has represented Worcester and Massachusetts with integrity, humility and excellence throughout his life."
"It’s only fitting that this bridge, which connects people and communities every day, will forever carry the name of someone who has inspired generations on and off the court, myself included," she added.
"We as a family feel ever so fortunate to have lived in Worcester, a community which is so generously embraced our dad and us," said the Cousy family in a statement.
"Dad’s love for Holy Cross and for Worcester infused all of us in the family. We are grateful that our parents to have chosen this community to make their home."
