When it comes to the sort of longevity celebrated in the career of Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James, few NBA players are in his rarefied air. But long before James took the court for the first time, Hall of Fame Boston Celtics forward John Havlicek was the iron man of his era, rarely missing games over the course of his 16-season career.

In fact, Hondo (as he was often called for a nickname) rarely missed more than a few games per season – and never played fewer than 76 regular season games over the course of his entire NBA career. Yet, he did occasionally get hurt, and Celtics beat writer emeritus Bob Ryan bore witness to that health anomaly for the Boston legend.

The eponymous cohost of the CLNS Media "Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman, and Gary Tanguay" podcast took some time to tell the tale of a Hondo injury weird enough to be worth remembering all these years later. Check it out below!
