There are likely many of us who fondly remember Lincoln Kennedy dominating opponents during his time at UW and today his son Tye has committed and is looking forward to continuing the Kennedy legacy on Montlake.

The Recruitment: It isn’t often that the son of a legend goes seemingly under the radar for as long as Tye did, but once his early junior season film began circulating, the offers quickly followed. Kennedy took four official visits to Stanford, Utah, Michigan, and UW respectively. Despite his dad attending UW, it was no slam dunk that he would commit there. Utah had been recruiting him a long time and that also continued with the coaching staff that would then move to Michigan. In the end, Tye’s heart lead him back to Montlake to continue the family legacy.

Recruiting Ranking: Although he is rated as a top 50 player at his position group, it took him quite a while to receive his initial ranking. With another year of film to show his growth as a player, we expect that to move him much higher in the rankings.

Scouting Report: Kennedy has likely been compared to his father nearly his entire playing career and that won’t stop during his time on Montlake, but looking at him objectively as just an OL prospect there is a lot to like. He is an exceptional athlete for his size and shows both lateral and straight line speed. Adding in his flexibility/bend at a 6’6 280 Lb. frame is very impressive. Right now he is still a little raw in his pass-pro form and is more advanced in his run blocking ability. As mentioned above, all the tools are clearly there as long as he works hard both in the film room and the weight room.

Roster Impact: Kennedy is likely going to be the only true tackle prospect in the class and will likely be slated to compete at LT when he arrives in Seattle. Obviously five-star freshman OT Kodi Greene looks like the favorite to win the LT job, so Kennedy will need to pay his dues before competing to earn playing time. Pushing him in the weight room for a redshirt year will do him a lot of good and then he will be ready to compete for the backup LT role with Kolt Dieterich among others.

Overall Thoughts: I know I’m not alone in thinking that Lincoln Kennedy is the greatest OT to ever don the purple & gold. To see the Kennedy legacy continue on Montlake is a very special feeling. It is the same feeling I felt when we landed Carson Bruener. Although he will need to be patient and pay his dues, he is a very tantalizing prospect regardless of family ties.
