The Wisconsin Badgers announced that head coach Mike Hastings has been named a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award.

Each year, the Spencer Penrose Award is given out to the CCM/AHCA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year.

Hastings is already a three-time winner of this award, though all three of those occasions came during his time at Minnesota State. The 2015, 2021, and 2022 winner is one of only three coaches to have won the award on three separate occasions. More impressively, he's the only coach in the 75-year history to win it in back-to-back seasons.

Now, Hastings eyes a historic fourth Spencer Penrose Award. His ability to take the No. 12 Badgersto the Frozen Four speaks for itself, and their sweep at No. 6 Penn State to end the regular season was extremely impressive.

While an early conference tournament exit could've held this team back, Hastings was still able to guide Wisconsin to its second NCAA Tournament appearance in his last three years.

In total, Hastings is one of 10 finalists. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, April 8.
