SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) – All throughout the region, sports are put on ice due to the upcoming winter weather event.
“I’m getting hurricane ready but with ice.” That’s how Byrd girls basketball head coach, Joanna Tate described her winter storm preparation.
It’s affecting all sports no matter the level. Local high schools have canceled their basketball games or moved them ahead of the storm arriving Saturday morning, the Shreveport Mudbugs announced they would be canceling their games this weekend, and LSUS’ title defense has been put on hold.
“Safety [is] number one. Always, you know, any any time we’re traveling, we think about getting them back home safely, said Deanna Doles, Pleasant Grove girls basketball head coach.
“They may have an aunt that’s traveling two hours to come watch them play, you know, you don’t want that happen,” added Silas Guidry, Parkway girls basketball head coach.
With no practice or games in the immediate future, rust becomes a factor, but these coaches have a few ways to wait out the storm. “The kids can still learn everyday. We have film they can watch. They can get better by doing that,” said Tate.
The Shreveport Mudbugs announced when they’ll make up this weekend’s games vs Lone Star. The first game will be played March 1 at 5 P.M. and the second game will be March 17 at 7:11 P.M..
