Willson Contreras loses mind as Red Sox, Nationals benches clear to brawl originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Willson Contreras was ticked off.
He struck out against Washington Nationals righty Cade Cavalli, and something upset him. The Boston Red Sox hitter appeared to question why Cavalli was talking to him.
And then the benches cleared.
Contreras had to be held back by half his team. It was a mess:

MORE: Max Muncy is playing against Max Muncy
One account on social media thinks Cavalli said, "Sit down, boy."
Contreras could get some discipline for this one, and of course, he was ejected on this night.
Maybe most interestingly, Nationals pitcher Miles Mikolas was ejected. Mikolas is a starting pitcher who wasn't throwing on this night.
Apparently, he got himself quite involved in the fracas.
Cavalli wasn't ejected.
Red Sox manager Chad Tracy and player Nate Eaton were also tossed.

It's not the first time Contreras has created controversy. Whenever a pitch is anywhere near him, he seems to take great offense as if pitchers are always throwing at him.
And if he gets hit? He's definitely going to stare the pitcher down and have some words, even if it's a totally illogical spot for the pitcher to want to hit him.
If you had been setting odds on a Red Sox player to spark such a melee, it'd be Contreras.
He didn't disappoint.
