Will New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez set the market at the position with his next deal in 2026?
Los Angeles Rams star Trent McDuffie is currently the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. McDuffie signed a four-year, $124 million deal with the Rams in free agency, making him the highest-paid cornerback in league history and setting the market in the process.
According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, Gonzalez is positioned well to reset the market at the cornerback position with his next deal, which he predicted to be a four-year deal worth $125 million.
“New England's Christian Gonzalez can make a strong case for topping McDuffie's deal,” Knox said. “He's established himself as one of the league's premier cover corners (77.3 career opposing passer rating), just helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl, and will only turn 24 next month.”
Gonzalez was a second-team All-Pro honoree in 2024 and helped lead the Patriots to the Super Bowl at the end of the 2025 season. The Texas native made countless plays last season and capped off his year by helping the Patriots limit Seahawks wide receiver and reigning Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba to 27 receiving yards in the Super Bowl.
Timing is key when dealing with players setting the market at their respective positions. Gonzalez is in his prime, with accolades and team success to leverage at the negotiating table. A new historic contract has the potential to be seen once he signs his next deal.
