People complain about strength and conditioning, but there isnt a strength program alive that properly prepares your body for 200+ pound men hitting you while traveling 20 mph. Every game of football where a player doesnt get injured is a miracle.

I'm in the camp that we need to bring back the tough training camps. They've gotten too soft after the last couple of CBAs and it's not getting their bodies conditioned for taking the hits once the season starts. You can't go from flag football to maximum impact at the flip of a switch and not expect injuries.

Sorry… this a crock of ish. Yes, every player deals with injuries. And then there are players WITH MAJOR INJURY HISTORIES who this team REPEATEDLY keeps taking with high picks that other teams rightly pass on… and then fans act surprised or defend the team when those major red flagged guys end up injured.

You want to play apologist for that kind of idiotic drafting when it continually bites us in the ass, that’s you’re perogative, but a guy like Johnson breaking down doesn’t take a Nostradamus to see it coming. EVERYONE in the draft stayed away because he couldn’t stay healthy in college and only a Nostradumbass couldn’t see that continuing, much less burned a high 2nd rounder on him, while he was in free fall in the draft.

Nah. I don't think this is true. Unless someone has a chronic condition I believe teams see injuries as @HairZach said. It's a part of the game, and can happen to anyone.

People didn't stay away from Johnson because of his injury history. Lots of teams have and did draft players recently with worse injury histories than Will Johnson, who played 14, 12 and 6 games in his 3 seasons. So it was really just the one injury in his final year.

They stayed away because he just missed a year and there were rumours he wasn't healed.

Anyone could have got this injury.

SOC from you.

Provide the names and the long list of players with major injury histories who this team repeatedly keeps taking with high picks that other teams have passed on. To prove your point, add the long list of teams who don't take those calculated risk with a player. Ball is in your court.

Will Johnson underwent knee surgery early 2023 and missed the first three games of Michigan’s national season championship. Key point (and the gamble Cards took with him) is that he returned to finish the year. He earned first‑team All‑American and All‑Big Ten honors. The draft gamble is that his play after coming back was an indication that the knee was good to go. He went from a projected high 1 to the 2nd round with the Cards. Plenty of teams passed on him even with the rating prior to his injury. The draft is a calculated gamble. The injury that has him going down this season has nothing to do with the knee---it is a neck injury.
His injury and also his superior skill set made him a calculated gamble even in RD 2. (Hindsight is always 20-20)

You do know the difference between a knee injury and a neck injury????

If a guy has a history of injuries all over, I am not surprised when a totally new injury occurs.

Having seen Jaxson Dart get himself concussed 10 times it wasn’t a shock to see him blow his knee out, jump passing while getting hit.

Knowing how to protect yourself is a skill. Romo was a very talented QB, but he was really bad at bracing himself to get hit so he got hurt all the time. Anthony Davis is one of the most talented players in the NBA but his career is defined by one bizarre injury after another, same with Joel Embiid, they don't know how to protect themselves.

Will Johnson gets hurt, a lot.

Care to help Cheesebeef out with his homework: "Provide the names and the long list of players with major injury histories who this team repeatedly keeps taking with high picks that other teams have passed on. There are plenty of website manned by football NERD GODS that have tracked injury history and have come up with scores for each player---for example, DraftSharks provides this data to fantasy football fanatics. (I haven't paid for this sevice, but it certainly looks interesting

Going off intuition and 'how it feels' is unfortunately not proof when trying to make your point. Certainly seems like Will Johnson is injured a lot---but how does that compare with other CBs on other teams? Scan down that list of injuries I posted earlier and you'll see a long list of CBs going out each week.

Violent game with plenty of injuries all around the league. it is the nature of the Beast. The injury list is relative to other teams---Cards are not the only team to take a gamble on a player and then get hit with bad luck and the guy goes down.

lol… the entire narrative around Johnson was he was free-falling because of injury concerns.

But then again, you were the guy who argued that tiny WR from Purdue (who’s name escapes me and sadly I think committed suicide) wasn’t a huge injury risk even though he also had a myriad of injuries in college that limited and then shocker… he got injured all the time when our dumb asses wasted a high pick on him also. And then you still refused to admit that his injury history should have prohibited us from drafting him.

Same was true here. Said it at the time and sadly proven true.

I’m not staying away from talented players who have had durability concerns coming out of college.

Sometimes it works out (Michael Wilson), sometimes it doesn’t.

Monti has drafted dudes who didn’t miss a single game in college, but they miss either a huge chunk or all of their rookie/sophomore season in the NFL. Just comes down to luck at the end of the day.

I am in the first 45 picks. Even at a high-value position the risk of crapping out is too high. Not getting a below-average starter with your second round pick isn’t crippling but it hurts your build.

Taking risks in guys with high upside but injury concerns later is just risk management. This is especially true with pot guys (which I don’t think is a thing anymore).

If MO gets another draft then Mikey has 0 desire to field a successful team
Desire has NOTHING to do with MB’s inability to run a successful franchise. When a franchise has been inept for as long as this one has been, it becomes very obvious that this family will sadly never figure it out. If he had any love or respect for the state of AZ and Cardinal fans everywhere, he would put this team up for sale!!!

The tiny guy from Purdue took his own life in February and his name was Rondale Moore.

Agree 100%. What I don’t understand is with far more injuries happening in the modern game, why haven’t they instituted an increase from a 53 man roster to at least a 60 man roster? Is it the owners that don’t want that? It needs to happen asap.

I’m not consistently wasting 2nd round draft picks on them… especially when they’re free-falling past every other team because of injury concerns.

There’s a time and place to take those guys.

With the post-Covid practice squad rules as IR designated to return they kind of sort of have.
