Longtime Georgia baseball fans know about Omaha.
The Bulldogs have played there in the College World Series six times previously, but this is the first time since 2008. So this will be the first trip there since a well-known off the field competition began.
It’s the “Rocco’s Jello Shot Challenge,” which began in 2019 at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina, located at 1302 Mike Fahey Street.
The fanbases of the eight CWS teams compete to see who can consume the most Jello Shots during the tournament.
A whiteboard keeps tab of how many shots fans of each time buy.
It looks like there’s no chance of a “Sour Power,” Georgia themed shot for the Bulldogs’ favorite candy from Buc-ees.
“This year, to celebrate America's 250th birthday and America's Pastime, Rocco's Jello Shots will be Red, White, and Blue,” the Jello Shot Challenge’s X account, with nearly 59,000 followers, posted on Tuesday. “While the teams may be wearing different colors on the field, we should always remember we are all on the same team. Cheers to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Jello!”
LSU fans bought 68,888 shots in 2023 when Georgia coach Wes Johnson was the Tigers’ pitching coach. LSU won again last year with 52,390.
Hurrdat Sports, a media, marketing, and entertainment group from Omaha, posted “unofficial odds,” for this year’s Jello Shot Challenge on X.
It has Georgia as the fourth best odds to win behind West Virginia, Ole Miss and Alabama. Texas had the fifth best odds followed by Oklahoma, North Carolina and Troy.
