The wins and losses at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, are only part of the story as Troy and Alabama fans are already making their mark in one of the event’s most popular side traditions.
The annual Jello Shot Challenge, hosted by Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina near Charles Schwab Field Omaha, tracks Jello shot purchases from fan bases all tournament long.
As of June 15 at 8:30 a.m., Troy sits at No. 3 on the eight-team leaderboard with 3,793 shots sold, while Alabama is No. 7 with 2,073.
Here’s how the schools stack up in the Jello shot standings:
Rocco’s Jello Shot Challenge leaders
Rocco’s Jello Shot Challenge started in 2019 at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina, 1302 Mike Fahey St., Omaha.
The fans of all eight teams playing for the CWS try to buy the most $5 shots, and the restaurant posts regular updates with photos of the leaderboard.
The annual event raises money for food banks in Nebraska and in the towns of the participating teams.
The official account for the contest posted recently that all the shots will be red, white or blue to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.
"While the teams may be wearing different colors on the field, we should always remember we are all on the same team. Cheers to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit," it posted.
Since then, the totals have climbed substantially. Some years involve amounts of alcohol that muddle the mind and pickle the liver.
Louisiana State University won in 2023 with a record-setting 68,888 shots. They were followed by Tennessee with 38,340 and Texas A&M with 32,762.
In 2024, the Tennessee Volunteers were No. 1 with 38,340 shots. The Texas A&M Aggies had 32,645, and the Kentucky Wildcats had 6,969.
LSU won again in 2025 with 52,390 shots. Coastal Carolina was second with 9,117 shots, and Arkansas was third with 9,075.
