The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Board of Control approved realignment involving three schools from the Milwaukee area, according to a WIAA press release on Tuesday, March 10.
“The Board approved realignment in the Milwaukee area that moves Menomonee Falls and Germantown from the Greater Metro Conference to the North Shore Conference and Grafton from the North Shore Conference to the Glacier Trails Conference,” the release said.
The changes would involve only non-football athletics for the three schools.
Menomonee Falls and Germantown will join a North Shore Conference that includes Cedarburg, Hartford, Homestead, Nicolet, Slinger and Whitefish Bay. Grafton joins Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Kewaskum, Plymouth, Port Washington, Sheboygan South, West Bend East and West Bend West in the Glacier Trails.
The release stated that the board will put additional Milwaukee-area realignment changes under “additional review and final consideration” before the next Board of Control meeting on April 22.
“The Board remanded plans involving other Greater Metro schools, the Classic 8 Conference, the Southeast Conference and independent schools in the Milwaukee area back to the Task Force for additional review and final consideration at the Board meeting in April,” the release said.
Substantial changes in previous realignment plans included Carmen South/Carmen Southeast and Milwaukee Reagan leaving the Milwaukee City Conference for the Southeast Conference to join Kenosha Bradford, Kenosha Indian Trail, Kenosha Tremper, Racine Case, Racine Horlick and Racine Park. That portion of the plan was previously met with displeasure from City Conference officials. The latest proposal from February listed Carmen South/Carmen Southeast as an independent, while Reagan would stay in the City.
"After appeals from the Greater Metro Conference, Southeast Conference, Milwaukee City Conference, and the Coulee Conference on Feb. 19, 2026 changes were made to the Milwaukee Area proposal presented in January. In the new proposal, Franklin, Milwaukee Reagan, and Hamilton all stay in their current conferences," the WIAA said on its Requests and Proposals page of its website.
Previous realignment plans included Franklin and Oak Creek leaving the Southeast to join the Greater Metro among Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Divine Savior Holy Angels (in girls athletics), Marquette (in boys athletics), Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West. The up-to-date proposal now places Franklin back in the Southeast, while Oak Creek would join the Greater Metro with Sussex Hamilton and the previously listed schools.
Also in the current proposal, the Classic 8 Conference includes just seven schools: Arrowhead, Catholic Memorial, Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago, Muskego, Oconomowoc and Waukesha West.
“The Board’s options are to approve, reject or remand the realignment recommendations back to the Task Force," a WIAA release said in January. "If remanded, the Task Force will reconvene to make appropriate changes to the plan before presenting it to the Board of Control again in April. If rejected, the conferences will remain in their current configuration.”
