#1 Reason: Their WR corps will be totally unproven. Why take a high pick QB who has no experience working with this level of talent?
#2Reason:They used a fairly high pick on Josh McCown.....logic would dictate that they lean on Blake until they have a better idea as to what Josh can do.
#3Reason:If McCown doesn't do anything to impress this year, next years crop of QB's are as strong as this years(Manning;Rivers;Roethlesberger;Anderson and David Greene).
#4Reason:What I'll call the Akili Smith Syndrome.Carson Palmer while possessing the requiste build of a desired 1st round QB versus Smith, essentially has only one year of proven success as a starter(do I hear Akili Smith here).
#5Reason:The pricetag of a high 1st round QB pick and the type of contract that would need to be structured to get him on board before training camp are "Bidwill Barriers"
#6 Reason: Coach Mac doesn't have the luxury of time to develop a high 1st round QB pick. He's got to get to the playoff round soon or he's out.

Any other reasons that I've overlooked?

Well if we take a QB it would be for the future and I would guess that he wouldn't play this year. Not a good reason

#2Reason:They used a fairly high pick on Josh McCown.....logic would dictate that they lean on Blake until they have a better idea as to what Josh can do.

Fairly high? Well they used a #1 on DT and a #2 the year before on DE. In fact they have taken 9 D-Line men in 3 years. Besides the pick they took McCown with was a freeby a compensatory pick they took a chance and he is a LONG way from being ready and may never be. Not a good reason

#3Reason:If McCown doesn't do anything to impress this year, next years crop of QB's are as strong as this years(Manning;Rivers;Roethlesberger;Anderson and David Greene).

Most of the time when you draft a QB they sit for a year so in that case it would be another year before they QB takes the field. No one in that class is near as good as Leftwich. Not a good reason

#4Reason:What I'll call the Akili Smith Syndrome.Carson Palmer while possessing the requiste build of a desired 1st round QB versus Smith, essentially has only one year of proven success as a starter(do I hear Akili Smith here).

WHAT? You lost me. I think you are talking about the Cardinals taking Palmer which I think most believe that the Cardinals if they took a QB would take Leftwich.

#5Reason:The pricetag of a high 1st round QB pick and the type of contract that would need to be structured to get him on board before training camp are "Bidwill Barriers"

While I agree I don't see that beeing a good reason not to draft one they have had problems with ALL their first round picks

#6 Reason: Coach Mac doesn't have the luxury of time to develop a high 1st round QB pick. He's got to get to the playoff round soon or he's out.

I think it is pretty eveident that Graves is calling the shots IE Emmitt Smith..Shipp is Mac's guy

Any other reasons that I've overlooked?

You forgot the kerouc's reason "We already have the QB of the future ;)

I love the

McCown was drafted high thing.

That is a myth. He was the last pick in the third round and a compensatory pick at that. Really he was a 4th round talent.

We have also seen the "Third QB taken" myth as well.

He wasn't. He was taken after Carr, Harrington, and Ramsey...all of whom start for their teams because they are ready to play.

McCown should be looked at as a backup/project. That's it...which is what you expect from a 4th round QB.

Now let me give you the reasons the Cardinals SHOULD take a QB in the first round.

#1 The Cardinals won't win more than 7 games this year. If you think they will, you need to lay off the Cardinal Kool-Aid. There are so many holes on this team and so many question marks, it is very unlikely they will be filled. The only way the Cardinals win more games is if Emmitt Smith finds the fountain of youth behind our o-line. So, since the odds at the playoffs are very long...we need to think about the future. Leftwich is someone that can run this franchise for many years.

#2 Blake is good but old. There is a reason he signed a two year deal. We have the veteran starter in place to teach a rookie right now. Blake can play the whole season. Meanwhile, waiting a year puts more pressure to start the rookie too early. See Chad Pennington for the advantages for developing your franchise QB.

#3 You say that next year's draft will be strong in QBs...sure...if we end up with the top 2 picks than we can tab Eli...but Leftwich will be there at 6. You are basically counting on: McCown being a franchise level player...or us being 3-13. If you are thinking we will have the #2 pick in the draft...then why not take the QB now and be ready to shine next season?
Franchise QBs rarely fall into your lap.

#4 Byron Leftwich is nothing like Akili Smith. Akili Smith was one of those guys who was drafted based on his athleticism only....a lot like McCown. Average college career with a nice combine/senior bowl. Hey...that's exactly like McCown. Leftwich has been a top college QB for multiple years.

#5 So you are saying to not draft the best player on the board because it might be hard to sign him? This is exactly why we drafted Tommy Knight.

#6 Coach Mac should have been extended this last year. It isn't fair to have a coach have a team with so much transition and expect success.

Oh I hope Lefty is there for our taking @ pick 6.

Pick 6 - ha ha - * cringing at the thought of Plummer throwing one of many, then realizing we don't have to deal with that anymore*

I agree with Chris Sanders's take.

I am almost afraid though that ByLeft will be taken either 1 or 3 though and Palmer possibly slipping to 6. I really haven't made up my mind on Palmer yet - but I'm leading towards a No.

I could live with a number of possible positions being drafted in the 1st--DE, CB, DT and QB. It all depends on what happens with the first five, and that won't be a certainty until draft day.

If Leftwich is there at #6, I would hope the Cards would seriously consider drafting him.

Actually wasn't DJ the last pick in the third round and therefore the freebie player?

I can honestly say that I don't agree with any of these.
