One way or the other, the Boston Celtics should be near the end of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors.
With the NBA Draft set to begin on Tuesday night, we should finally get some clarity as to where the two-time NBA MVP will be playing in 2026-27.
The Milwaukee Bucks have said from the outset that they want the situation resolved by draft night - and the Celtics should too.
Here's why:
It's unclear exactly what Milwaukee's plans would be in a post-Antetokounmpo world, but no matter what, the draft picks they could acquire in a deal will be important. And they should want those draft picks to come as soon as possible.
If Milwaukee intends to rebuild, then they should want as many picks possible in this year's deep draft in order to do that.
If they intend to spin off draft picks into other roster pieces, then they should want the ability to do that in this draft. While the deadline is arbitrary, it comes with significance.
And the Celtics should care about that as well. For planning purposes, they'd like to know what they have available to them and when. And as Antetokounmpo ages, they'd likely want draft picks in the future, meaning they should be more OK giving up picks in this year's version of the draft when they don't need to protect Antetokounmpo as much.
NBA Free Agency begins on June 30, just six days after the conclusion of the draft. If the Celtics are to make a trade with the Bucks by Tuesday, they'll have at least a week to understand the free agent landscape in their new situation.
That will be good. Exactly how much money do they have available? Exactly what positions are needed in free agency? How did they draft and how does that impact the rest of the roster decisions?
This deadline helps everybody.

--If the Celtics do elect to keep their draft picks, they currently have picks No. 27 and No. 40. They've been connected to a number of different prospects in the draft, but we are growing fond of Henri Veesaar of North Carolina.
Here's why.
--Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports Radio recently delivered an interesting take about Jayson Tatum, saying he's not as good as we essentially have thought he is. We take a look at Cowherd's argument here.
