Speaking in a clip shared by First Take, Smith made his feelings clear.

“I’m very disturbed by what Jerry Jones said. I’m gonna call him. I’m gonna go see him if I can, if he will allow me to, because I’m not comfortable with what words just, I just heard come out of Jerry Jones mouth,” Smith said.

Smith’s reaction came after Jones gave a non-committal answer regarding Pickens’ long-term situation, suggesting the process would simply “play itself out” within the franchise tag timeline.

Rather than clarifying the team’s intentions, the response raised more questions, particularly given Pickens’ importance to the Cowboys’ offense. That uncertainty is what triggered such a strong response.

“Look at the reporters behind them. Look at their faces … that’s a very, very uncomfortable thing. I love Jerry Jones. Everybody knows that,” Smith continued.

He concluded, stating: “Everybody knows that’s my guy. I don’t like that. I don’t like that at all. That’s incredibly uncomfortable to say.”

According to Smith, it was not just what Jones said, but how it landed in the room that stood out. The visible reaction from reporters reinforced the sense that something felt off about the exchange.
