The New York Jets have found their next offensive coordinator.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Jets are hiring former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich as their new play-caller.
Reich replaces Tanner Engstrand, who was fired after one horrific season that saw the Jets' offense perform as one of the very worst in the NFL.
Schultz provided more details surrounding why the Jets landed on Reich.
Why Jets hired Frank Reich
According to Schultz, head coach Aaron Glenn wanted a veteran play-caller who can take full control of the offense so Glenn can focus more on the defense.
"HC Aaron Glenn was looking for a veteran play-caller to take over the offense and be responsible for that side of the ball, and he believes Reich is the guy. Glenn will take more control of the defense and call plays there this season, I’m told," he reported.
Reich is certainly the right man for what the Jets were looking for, as he brings a wealth of experience with him.
Having Reich on staff is like having another head coach, which will be hugely beneficial to Glenn, who is entering his second season on the job.
On top of that, Reich has a history of success as a play-caller and was once one of the most respected offensive minds in the NFL before he hit the skids in Indianapolis and Carolina.
