The New York Jets have named their next offensive play caller.
Frank Reich is being hired as their offensive coordinator, the team announced Feb. 4.
Reich will be in charge of the offense after the organization parted ways with former offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand last week after just one season.
Here are three things to know about Frank Reich, the new Jets offensive coordinator:
Reich was formerly a head coach in the NFL with two different organizations.
He was the Indianapolis Colts head coach from 2018-2022 and the Carolina Panthers head coach in 2023.
Ironically enough, both Reich and head coach Aaron Glenn were teammates on the Jets for one season in 1996.
Reich appeared in 10 games and made seven starts for the organization while Glenn was a starting cornerback for the Jets 30 years ago.
The two now reunite on the same franchise.
Reich was born in Freeport, New York but moved to Lebanon, Pennsylvania where he played football, basketball and baseball in high school.
He attended the University of Maryland from 1980-84 before being drafted in the third round (57th overall) in the 1985 NFL Draft.
