Jon Rahm’s PGA Championship performance was a much-needed boost for LIV Golf.

At The Masters, only one LIV Golf player finished inside the top 30 players, leading to questions being asked about how prepared the Saudi-backed league leaves its players for major championships.

But the PGA Championship told a different story. Three LIV players finished inside the top 20, two inside the top 10, and one in the top two as Jon Rahm contended for the win on Sunday. Bryson DeChambeau, however, was not among these players.

The two-time US Open winner missed the cut for his second-straight major, and that’s a massive blow for the American after what Rahm did.

Bryson DeChambeau cannot blame LIV Golf for missing PGA Championship cut

DeChambeau triple-bogeyed the 18th at Augusta National to embarrassingly miss the cut at The Masters, but he escaped much of the criticism. Because Rahm and nearly every other LIV player did so poorly at the tournament, LIV Golf was blamed for the result.

But Rahm and Cameron Smith, who were also in the mix late, proved that at Aronimink at least, LIV Golf isn’t to blame. While DeChambeau was sent home early, there were a number of LIV stars who were able to play their best golf alongside the best the PGA Tour has to offer.

Rahm finished second, beating the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy on Sunday for his best major championship finish since 2023. He finally translated his LIV Golf form into the majors, and it was great to see the former world number one back to his best.

But as he negotiates with the PGA Tour in the midst of LIV’s potential collapse, DeChambeau may well have been rooting for Rahm’s downfall on the weekend. This is now a massive blow to his future.

Bryson DeChambeau’s PGA Championship finish ruins his future plans

After news broke that LIV Golf had lost its Saudi funding, DeChambeau was seen speaking with PGA Tour officials about a potential move. And since then, he’s been attempting to pull the strings in these negotiations.

DeChambeau was told that he’d need to accept a deal, similar to the one Brooks Koepka agreed to, in order to return, and his public stance on this was that it’s a shame, “especially because of what I could do for them”.

DeChambeau would bring a large fanbase with him due to his online following, and he also threatened to step away from full-time competition to do YouTube and play the majors. This came across as a desperate attempt to build some leverage.

But after two straight missed cuts at majors, DeChambeau’s stock has never been lower. Off the course, he’s a massive headache, and on the course, he’s showing that he isn’t on the level of Rahm, or the PGA Tour’s best.

Now DeChambeau has two more majors to prove his worth before he’s left with no leverage at all.
