It's the question that everyone has been asking for two days straight as the 2025 NFL Draft continues and Shedeur Sanders hasn't been selected.

Why is the Colorado quarterback being passed over in the first three rounds? Why is a top-rated player like him who did well with the Buffaloes suddenly being leapfrogged by other quarterbacks?

WHICH TEAMS SHOULD PICK SHEDEUR SANDERS? 5 franchises who should draft him

The answer is ... we don't truly know what's in the heads of 32 NFL general managers, or at least what's being said by the teams that actually need a quarterback.

But let's make an attempt here to piece it together with some potential reasons why:

1. NFL teams are worried about Shedeur Sanders' skill set and measureables

Perhaps it's his arm strength. Maybe it's his lack of height. Maybe it's that he's not a runner like other modern QBs are. What's weird is he's accurate, which is something NFL teams covet.

Whatever it is, NFL teams may have looked at all of that and decided he wasn't a top QB prospect.

2. The rumblings about "bad" interviews were true

NFL Draft smokescreen season stinks, because you never know if an anonymous scout or front office member is trying to use quotes to manipulate where a player goes.

But there have been multiple quotes about Sanders coming off badly in interviews with teams. That could have downgraded him a few rounds.

3. Is there Deion Sanders or Sanders family bias?

I honestly don't know. Sanders is a legend, but was he too loud in trying to direct the process or, say, possible landing spots for his son? Are teams worried about Deion being a "distraction" in the background?

Maybe this is more about a quote like this, via ESPN:

Asked Friday night to add context to Sanders' fall, one executive from a team in the quarterback market said there was "no smoking gun, but it's not just football either." The executive indicated that Sanders' celebrity and the attention he would bring would complicate his selection because he is not seen as a star.

The Titans got Cam Ward, so they were out. The Giants ended up falling for Jaxson Dart and they already had two veteran QBs in house. The Saints, Browns and Seahawks were possible spots, but they went elsewhere. And then? Well, the Rams might be in win-now mode with Matthew Stafford and devoted their picks to helping that effort. The Jets are good with Justin Fields for now.

The Steelers? Well, they're sort of in a weird spot with Aaron Rodgers, so it's not a slam dunk.

So the market wasn't the best for him to be a Round 1 must-have prospect.
