One of the overlooked impacts of Johnson on the secondary is that I expect what I like to call contagious aggressiveness. Everyone expects Johnson to be extremely focused on attacking the ball. They also foresee more errant throws that can be picked off due to an expected improved pass rush. Johnson will likely be quickly effective at knocking down throws and intercepting passes. Melton and Williams are great athletes. With vulnerable passes filling the air I’ll be astonished if those two defenders don’t get more aggressive at intercepting these throws. Melton picked off 8 passes his last 3 seasons in college. Williams already has 3 pro pickoffs. I fully expect this unit to have a banner season. The Cardinals could definitely have a game changing pass defense.

I really liked Melton coming out of college and thought he was a very good 2nd round pick. I did not expect him to be a starter year one however I think he will develop into a very solid #2 CB.
Don’t sell Melton short. I think he could be a solid #1.

A front 4 that can pressure the QB makes our entire secondary that much better. Sprinkle in some Rallis schemes and I think this revamped side of the ball can take a big leap.

The ceiling of this unit is incredibly high and I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a cardinals defensive unit.

I just hope we are patient - will Johnson will be a rookie and with that will come some bone headed mistakes- always does, always will- I hope I don't see people clamoring for his head when it happens.

And though the talent level is ridiculously higher - this squad, especially the front 7 have never played together and may need a little time and patience to gel. That's honestly where I hope vets like Buddha, mack Wilson , and Campbell can really step up and lock this unit in.

Lastly- I do not think Gannon would let this kind of stuff fly - but I hope no toxicity enters the unit, especially in the beginning. SMB, Nichols, Thompson all have to see the writing on the wall- and pushing these guys out is not the same as replacing bottom of the barrel talent. Egos will be involved

Yeah I am excited about our defense this year but concerned about our offense. We didn't address this in free agency and the draft except getting a a decent backup QB in Brissett.
