Or rather why is he looking like a colossal bust at the moment. It is a bye week so I think this is a good football question for all the draft guys on the board. I just don't want to hear "oh, he is just another Wisconsin back who was overhyped" because somebody here must have some observation regarding his abilities I would think. He was not only good in college but dynamic, there is no way the Charger line is that bad at run blocking for Gordon to not have shown at least one run this season which shows what he exhibited in college. I know he had some fumbling problems in college which had teams leery of him in the draft and of recent was benched for fumbling for a interval. Looking at the kid, what did anyone see in college that said "he is what we thought" he was lol

You can't really say not to factor in Wisconsin because the facts are that every RB has looked good in that system and none, as of yet, have had much of an impact in the NFL. I mean, it's pretty easy to be a RB when you have an 8 yard running start and no one touches you until you're about 3-4 yards past the LOS. They have had a 1000+ yard rusher every year going over 10 years and you have to go back to Ron Dayne to find one that even had a minimal impact as a pro.

It's the same reason why I say to avoid Oregon skill players in the draft. Their system puts superior athletes in open spaces at the college level but those same players aren't superior to the athletes in the NFL.

But, back to Wisky, all they have to do, for the most part, is run to where the hole is called. They don't have to make people miss or have exceptional cutting ability. Really, they don't even need a ton of speed. It's too early to say Gordon is a bust but it shouldn't surprise anyone if he is. I know prior to the draft I was against taking him in round 1 and thought Gurley was undoubtedly the better RB.

Injured to start the season. He is expected to get a lot of the work this week. We shall see if he can impress.

San Diego's offensive line has been a problem all season long due to injuries and lack of talent.

Well you might not want to hear it but that's the answer. It's the system they run. Montee Ball and Ron Dayne put up amazing numbers and both fell flat. Ball is serviceable but he was a superstar in school.

Yup, as much as you don't want to hear it, I think the College system does play a huge role in these underperforming players (i.e busts). As stated above, Oregon skill players always seem to fade out. Look back at recent QB's from teams like Florida, Notre Dame. RB's from teams like Wisconsin, Ohio State, etc... always seem to disappoint. I think these big name schools have sooo much talent on the rosters, that it makes everyone's talent look over inflated.

I don't even think Ball is on a NFL roster right now (unless he got picked up recently). I think that is worse than serviceable.

I live here and I could run behind those o lines. I said when he was drafted he was soft and I still believe that to be the case. Of course I am a sun devils so I don't watch all the whisky games but their o line man are so good that most anybody can gain yardage. CBUS put it aptly when he said whiskey rbs are a product of the system.

Chargers O line blows. He actually makes something out nothing sometimes but his line is just so damn terrible. Its a miracle that Rivers is still alive.

That is what I thought and wanted to hear it from someone else as well... I think the guy is not up to NFL contact

Its not that, trust me I watch him play more than any of you unfortunately.

If we played on any other team with somewhat of a decent OL, he could put numbers close to what Gurley's putting up in St Louis.

Only want the good ones though. You haven't heard me once say that I want the Cards to draft Ezekiel Elliot. Carlos Hyde and Beanie, well, that's a different story. To me Elliot is kind of like Gordon. He'll make plays when there is a hole but I don't see a whole lot of wiggle and ability to make people miss in his game.

I think the 2nd stringer at OSU, Curtis Samuel, is the guy to watch when it comes to the NFL. He, I think, is the real deal.

Probably the same reason why most QB coming out of Florida and USC end up being busts. The college game is vastly different than the NFL and the talent level isn't anywhere near that of the NFL. The worst NFL team would dismantle the best college team easily. The 2008 Lions would blow out the Florida team that won the national title that same year. There are no FCS schools in the NFL. Every team has NFL talent. Even the bad teams. Hell if college performance carried into the NFL, Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf would be headed to Canton.
