Normally, if a Chicago Bears player were compared to a Green Bay Packers player, fans would be in disgust.
The Bears-Packers rivalry is one of the best in the NFL for a reason. The hatred between the fan bases doesn't just go away in the offseason.
We got to see it earlier this MLB season in the Crosstown Classic between the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox. Even though there were fans of opposing teams at the ballpark, they all united to chant "Green Bay sucks."
It's hard to go to a Chicago sporting event and not hear the chants start ringing out. The Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks have had this same thing happen at their venues in the past.
Caleb Williams has only played two seasons of NFL football and has already experienced great moments in the rivalry. After having their game-winning field goal blocked in the first meeting of 2024, the Bears hit the mark the second time and won 24-22.
Then, we had three games in the rivalry last season. Bears fans would probably say that sending the Packers home from the playoffs was the best of the three.
The Bears and Packers are rarely used in the same breath in a complimentary way, but that's what happened on a recent episode of the "CHGO Bears Podcast."
Mike Heller of the Badger Football Radio Network went on the show and said that Caleb Williams reminds him a lot of Aaron Rodgers.
"I see him a little bit differently, and go, man, if that guy figures out the first three quarters of a football game, he reminds me a lot of an Aaron Rodgers," Heller said. "I think he could be a very, very good quarterback. He could be a Hall of Famer. That's a big stretch from where he is today, but his fourth quarter and overtimes a year ago showed that high ceiling he's got."
Upon reading that, I'm sure most of Chicago just threw up in their own mouths. However, I don't think it's a bad thing for Williams to be compared to Rodgers just two years into the NFL.
As much as he terrorized the Bears over the years, he is still a 10-time Pro Bowler, a Super Bowl Champion, a four-time First-Team All-Pro, and a four-time MVP.
If Williams has a career that mirrors that of Rodgers, then I think Bears fans would sign up for that in a heartbeat, especially if he can lead the franchise to a Super Bowl.
Rodgers is back for another season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He announced in May that the 2026 season would be his last, but he's absolutely going to be a Hall of Famer.
Williams has a long way to go to be considered a Hall of Famer, but he's already breaking records. Just last season, he broke the Bears' single-season passing yards record.
He's now being predicted to be in the MVP conversation this season.
Having a career like Rodgers' wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for Williams. In fact, I think most Bears fans would gladly take it.
