Ahead of Thursday afternoon's series finale in Chicago, the Boston Red Sox announced that left-handed starter Ranger Suárez was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain. The injury to Suárez further depletes an injury-riddled rotation, leaving Boston with few options to make Suárez's next start, slated for Saturday in New York.

Who could make Suarez's next start?

According to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam, the Red Sox are weighing their options for Suarez's replacement on Saturday afternoon as they take on the New York Mets. Here are a few of their options:

Brayan Bello

The 27-year-old Bello has made four starts with Triple-A Worcester since being optioned on June 5, posting a 4.34 ERA over 18.2 innings. While the results in Worcester are much improved from his time in Boston, Bello has not exactly lit the world on fire in Triple-A. He has thrown only 60.2 percent of his pitches for strikes, ranking in the 35th percentile among Triple-A pitchers, while allowing 40.7 percent of balls to be hit hard, resulting in a .289 batting average against him.

Bello, of course, struggled mightily during his time in Boston, particularly when he was used as a traditional starter, posting a 10.35 ERA in eight starts, including a first-inning ERA of 16.88. He was, however, incredibly efficient when used as a bulk reliever, posting a 0.71 ERA, the second-lowest mark among all relievers with at least 20 innings.

Brayan Bello since being optioned to Worcester:

4 Starts - 18.2 IP
4.34 ERA/1.99 FIP
10.6 K/9
1.9 BB/9
0 HR
.286 BAA (.400 BABIP)

Good look at everything underneath the hood. Arsenal breakdown: 36.1% Sinker, 22.1% Cutter, 16.7% Changeup, 13.6% 4SFB, 10% Sweeper, 1.5% Curveball. https://t.co/IQsyatQPyYpic.twitter.com/o57NxSVaOC

After being left off Worcester's probable starters for the week, Bello seems like the most likely option to handle the bulk of the work in Suarez's absence, whether as a bulk reliever or a traditional starter.

Tyler Uberstine

The 27-year-old right-hander made his major league debut on April 5, making one relief appearance, allowing one earned run on three hits over 2.2 innings, and taking the loss as the Red Sox fell 8-6 to San Diego.

After initially being used as a starter, Uberstine has been used in a relief role in Worcester, allowing seven earned runs on 14 hits across 20.2 innings, good for a 3.05 ERA.

Despite being used in a relief role for Worcester, Uberstine is fairly stretched out, throwing multiple innings in five of his last seven appearances. Though he would likely only be able to give Boston three or four innings if he is the choice to replace Suarez.

Eduardo Rivera

Boston could also turn to 23-year-old left-hander Eduardo Rivera if they are simply looking for an option to get through three or four innings before handing things over to the bullpen. Like Uberstine, Rivera has appeared mostly in a multi-inning relief role for Worcester in 2026, posting a 2.84 ERA across 38 innings after being promoted from Double-A Portland, allowing opponents to hit only .189 against him while striking out 10.89 batters per nine innings.

Rivera made a brief appearance on the major league roster, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out three against the Yankees on April 22. Rivera last pitched on Wednesday night for Worcester, meaning he would be coming off only two days of rest if selected.

Eduardo Rivera is an electricity factory. Currently ranked #41 by @SoxProspects.

Very intriguing multi-inning relief prospect. Especially for an org that could use left-handed relief depth.

The Red Sox beat the White Sox 2-1 on Thursday afternoon to complete their second consecutive series sweep. They will kick off their final series ahead of the All-Star break on Friday night in Queens, taking on the New York Mets in a three-game set. Sonny Gray (10-1, 2.61 ERA) gets the start for Boston opposite Nolan McLean (6-5, 3.73 ERA) for New York. First pitch from Citi Field set for 7:15 p.m. ET.
