One of the biggest surprises for the Boston Red Sox this season has been Brayan Bello's struggles.

Bello has been one of the most consistent pieces in the Red Sox's starting rotation for the past four years, making 28 or more starts in the past three seasons. Though he posted a career-best 3.35 ERA last season, Bello struggled immensely trying to find his rhythm this season.

The right-handed hurler was exceptional when Boston implemented an opener, boasting an absurd 0.77 ERA across 25 1/3 innings pitched, but fell apart when starting, posting a 10.35 ERA in eight starts.

With Bello dealing with consistency issues, especially in the first inning, the Red Sox elected to demote the 27-year-old to Triple-A. In his first start in the minor leagues on Saturday, Bello yielded mixed results.

"Right-hander Brayan Bello had mixed results on Saturday in his first start for Triple-A Worcester since the Red Sox demoted him," MassLive's Christopher Smith wrote on Sunday. "Bello pitched four innings, allowing two runs, five hits and no walks while striking out five at Rochester. He threw 60.5% of his 74 pitches for strikes.

"He had a perfect first inning Saturday against the Red Wings with a strikeout looking, a groundout and a flyout. But he then allowed a run in both the second and third innings."

Though it's positive to see that Bello was able to make it out of the first inning scoreless, he still allowed multiple runs and threw 74 pitches in only four innings. It's unclear how long it will take for the Red Sox to call Bello back up to the big leagues.
