Welcome to the Herald-Times Athlete of the Week poll for Aug. 25-30, 2025, presented by IU Health.
First, let's congratulate last week's winner, Eastern Greene volleyball player Leila Quimby, who got 42.5% of the vote (6,291) to top T-Bird soccer player Griffin Hengeveld (21%).
Readers can vote as much as they like until Thursday at noon, so spread the word. Here are this week's nominees:
Had a strong week as a tandem on both sides of the pitch. Ensign had a goal and an assist and Chambre had two assists in a 6-0 rout of Martinsville. They played key roles in limiting state ranked Center Grove to just two goals in a 2-0 loss.
Won the Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Invitational race in 18:19.2 to lead the Mustangs to the team title as well.
Freshman ran a 20:18.5 at White River Valley to win the Greene County Invitational and lead the T-Birds to a sixth straight team title.
Had 35 kills on Saturday at the Scottsburg Tournament as the Mustangs lost to Jennings County (25-22, 25-11) but bounced back to beat Vincennes Lincoln (27-25, 25-21), Jeffersonville (25-22, 25-16) and Scottsburg (25-16, 25-17). The senior OH hit .311 with six aces. She had 56 kills for the week as Edgewood lost to Bedford North Lawrence (five-setter) and Northview.
Junior had a ridiculous week scoring wise with 10 goals in three matches. Had a hat trick and two assists in a 6-0 WIC win over Sullivan, five more goals in a 10-1 rout of Mitchell and another two as the Mustangs took down North Putnam, 2-0.
Junior helped the Lions to a 4-1 week with 91 kills, 50 digs and 24 blocks. She had 14 digs and 15 kills in a 25-13, 25-13, 25-13 win over Seven Oaks; 19 kills, six solo blocks, three block assists and 10 digs in a 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 win over North Central; 23 kills, nine blocks and 10 digs in a tough five-set loss at Crothersville (25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 10-25, 15-13); three blocks, 11 digs and 16 kills in a 28-26, 25-20, 25-17 win over North Daviess (their first over the Cougars) and two blocks, 18 kills and five digs in a sweep of Cannellton.
Had a 17:55 for third place as the T-Birds put five in the top 10 to win the Greene County Invitational at White River Valley.
No. 3 singles player for Patriots won a tough 7-5, 6-3 win in a 3-2 loss to Linton and a 6-4, 6-0 win in a 3-2 victory over Edgewood.
The senior and sophomore combined to finish in second place for the Cougars at the Avon Hokum Karem. They covered the six-mile race in 29:04, just 11 seconds behind the winning team from Brownsburg.
Senior rallied to pull out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Edgewood's all-stater Andrew Paul in a 5-0 win over the Mustangs.
Had five goals and three assists as the Panthers won their group at the Evansville Memorial Tournament starting with a 0-0 tie vs. Evansville North. The sophomore had two goals in a 4-1 win over 1A No. 3 Providence and three in a 7-0 romp over 2A No. 18 Washington.
Had a five-goal week, with a hat trick as the No. 5 Panthers downed Bedford North Lawrence 9-0 and then had two more in a 3-3 tie at No. 15 Castle.

Heidi Chambre & Camila Ensign, North girls soccer
