OKLAHOMA CITY – Tennessee softball is moving on to the winner's bracket in the Women's College World Series.

The No. 7 seed Lady Vols (48-10) defeated No. 2 Texas (47-12), 6-3, at Devon Park on May 28 in their WCWS opener. Tennessee lost to the Longhorns, the eventual champions, in the WCWS semifinals last season.

Tennessee will face No. 3 seed Texas Tech (58-7) on May 30 (3 p.m. ET, ABC). Texas Tech beat Mississippi State 8-0 in five innings to open the WCWS.


The Lady Vols have made a run to the WCWS semifinals in two of the past three seasons. They were eliminated by the Longhorns last year in a 2-0 loss.

Before 2023, Tennessee hadn't been to Oklahoma City since 2015. The Lady Vols are also making a consecutive trip to the WCWS for the first time since 2012 and 2013.
