"Well, Ty you were with the Cards all day. What information were you able to gather about the upcoming draft?"
"Coach McVay. I can't tell you anything."
"OK. Guess we'll draft you at #13 anyway."

Ha, ok. I answered your question, and you followed by writing a book and not answering my question.

I hope you're right, but expect you to be disappointed.
You wanted to know why I thought the Cards were going to have a 9+ win season. I gave you an answer---and you are complaining that I didn't answer your question???

Bet my answer was the first book you have read in a long, long time.

Waiting to read your 'book' on why you believe we are at 4.5 wins for the upcoming season. Your turn to develop your argument and defend your position.

oh I agree... but he and Matt are friends..he had to look upset so Matt didnt get his panties in a wad...managing egos is all part of the job... but im certain McVay has been looking past Staffords time with the rams for a couple years now...and he has to feel better about finally having that base covered.
Do you actually believe this post-hoc narrative by the Rams? Go watch McVays call to Simpson. Its brutal.

because this years team will actually be closer to the 24 team than the 25 team, IMHO

assuming of course...we avoid the massive injury assault and dont have to call the insurance salesmen to come back and play again
So are they completely different teams or not?

I don’t think McVay thinks about the Cards at all.

honest??
Not sure what I believe in regards to the rams situation.
on the surface, we could take it all at face value...dude says he is happy...so he is happy.

or , dude says he is happy, but is obviously just trying not to piss off the boss and insult a new employee needlessly.

either could be true.

from a purely football perspective... I hope he is pissed as hell..I hope he is so pissed it boils over into other work discussions and causes strife with his GM... I hope Matt Stafford gives him crap about it and removes McVay from his christmas card list...

then, when Stafford finally retires...I hope McVay was right, and the kid suxx roxx and was a terrible draft pick.

its not my squad..so its just musing

I mean I know you don’t want to compare win percentages.

Brissett lead the Cards to a 1-11 finish. Kyler was 13-17 under Gannon/Petzing.

It’s deranged to assert that Brissett is better than Kyler in absolute terms.
Some say the name Kyler will go away.

That would be silly for a Coach to not think about a division team. But I do agree that I don’t think the Simpson pick had anything to do with the Cards.
Why not?

Our new HC just came from the Rams. The Rams know ML's appreciation for Simpson since he & the Rams FO had him as a target. Recent comments about the Rams/Simpson had him under the Rams radar since last year.

Rams could have traded down from their #13 and got a needed WR and Simpson. Their calculation would have to include which team might then leap-frogged them and take Simpson after a trade-down on their part. Their concern would be with teams including the Jets, Steelers, and the Cards trading up from the 2nd round to take Simpson. Cards were rumored to have Simpson on their radar.

Rams made the decision to take him at #13 and not risk any other team---including the Cards---trading ahead of them. Simpson would be their QBOTF even if it reqires he sit behind Stafford.

Why do you think the Rams didn't take what the Cards might do into their draft decision?

Because you laid it out already, the Rams wanted him. And they didn’t draft Simpson just to keep the Cards from getting him. They might have taken him at 13 because they were worried that someone would beat them to him, sure, but they didn’t draft him just to poach him from the Cards like I have seen suggested.

I never used the word ‘poach’ to describe what the Ram did prior to the draft to both recruit Simpson and to keep their interest in him secret. Not sure how you are using the word here or how you got the impression that I (or others) were implying that the Rams ‘poached’ Simpson. He was not an ‘employee’ of the Cards and so it would be a stretch to claim that the Rams ‘poached’ him. Cards had an interest and it was public knowledge. Rams on the other hand kept their own interest hid and had Simpson help with the deception. The Rams did block the Cards from being available to them by taking him at #13---not sure if 'poach' is the right term. I believe teams do this all the time to keep a player from going to a rival and get him for themselves.

Now, the Cards did ‘poach’ their new HC from the Rams (LOL).

Here’s some investigative reporting on what the Rams did (Note how it refutes a lot of the lies that came out from both the Rams and QB Simpson):

I did not have any direct knowledge of this type of behind-the-scene manuvers—what I did have is a conviction that it goes on ALL TIME with every team trying to get the ‘one-up’ on every other team. That CBS reporting just confirms my suspicion.

It should also educate the naive Card fans here who think the Rams didn’t attempt to hide their interest from the Cards or that they didn't consider the Cards into their equation. That notion is about as simple-minded silly as anything ever posted here when it comes to billion-dollar organizations trying to outmaneuver one another for coveted players.

I’ll have to dig into the NFL regs to see where the pre-draft visit with Simpson—off the record and with the collusion of Simpson—falls. Perhaps someone will jump in with that section of the agreement. Teams are given 18 minutes at the Combine and then have the ‘30' visits. Rams do not attend the combine and do not ‘do’ the ‘30' visits. Both of those become public knowledge and let other teams know where a given team’s interest lie. How much time can the teams meet with draft prospects outside those two events? Rams were at the Rose Bowl with an early interest in Simpson.

Recall that the MO got hammered when the Cards had contact with JG while he was prepping for the Eagles playoff run. Cards paid the price for that—which probably was closer to the definition of ‘poaching’ than what the Rams did.

Cards meet with Simpson with their last ‘30' visit just before the draft. Simpson took that visit and assisted the Rams by keeping his mouth shut—even after the draft. Simpson lied about meeting with the Rams and also when more info came out. Wonder if Simpson remained silent when meeting with the Cards—which makes him as much a snake as the Rams FO. MO/MB had to feel like they were 'played' by both the Rams and Simpson. He was all set to go to the Prom with someone else.

Recall that when wildfires swept through LA, the Cards and MB stepped up and invited the Rams here to have their playoff game. Wonder how quick MB will want to make that offer again?

MLF said on an interview with Rich E that Ty was loved by the entire Rams Organization including Mcvay. Mlf was not surprised the Rams drafted Ty.
