Toledo Mud Hens 8, Iowa Cubs 4 (box)
The Hens bullpen had a good night as the lineup build a nice lead, and the pen shut the Cubs down for much of the game.
On another rainy day in the region, a planned doubleheader was switched to a single game, with the doubleheader to make up Thursday’s rain out now set for Saturday.
In the top of the second, Ben Malgeri and Gage Workman started the inning with singles. Eduardo Valencia doubled in both runs with a grounder down the left field line. Corey Julks later singled in Valencia to make it a 3-0 lead.
Sawyer Gipson-Long got the start, and he gave up a solo shot to Chas McCormick in the bottom of the second inning, and then two more runs in the third as the Cubs tied it up.
In the fourth, the Hens struck right back. Gage Workman lined a solo shot to right to start the inning. Valencia and Trei Cruz both walked, and Valencia took third on a sacrifice fly from Julks. Cruz was thrown out trying to steal second, but Tomás Nido cracked a two-run shot to left for a 6-3 Hens lead.
Nick Sandlin took over from Gipson-Long to clean up the fourth, and then tossed a 1-2-3 fifth inning. Julks hit a two-run shot with Cruz aboard after a walk to make it 8-3 in the sixth.
Yoniel Curet handled the sixth and seventh innings, giving up a solo shot in the latter. Konnor Pilkington handled the eighth, while Tanner Rainey tossed a scoreless ninth to close it out.
Workman: 2-4, 2 R, RBI, HR, 2 K
Valencia: 1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, BB, K
Julks: 2-4, R, 3 RBI, HR, SB
Gipson-Long: 3.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 5:38 p.m. ET start on Saturday for the doubleheader with the Hens up 3-0 in the series.
Richmond Flying Squirrels 9, Erie SeaWolves 8 (F/10)(box)
The SeaWolves stacked up some runs early, but Richmond fought back an ultimately walked this one off in the 10th.
The SeaWolves started the game in a hurry as John Peck doubled with one out in the top of the first and scored on a Thayron Liranzo single. Liranzo took second on an error, and scored on an Andrew Jenkins single. Justice Bigbie followed with a walk, and Chris Meyers doubled in both runs for a quick 4-0 lead.
Sean Hunley gave up a run in the bottom half, but Brett Callahan smashed a two-run shot in the second to make it a 6-1 Erie lead. Hunley then leaked a pair of runs to make it 6-3. Callahan walked and took third on an errant pickoff attempt in the fourth, scoring on a Liranzo sacrifice fly for a 7-3 lead.

Hunley got into trouble in the bottom of the fourth and was charged for another run as Duque Hebbert took over. Hebbert then gave up three in the fifth that tied the game 7-7. Yosber Sanchez gave up the lead on a leadoff homer from Dayson Croes to open the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, it was John Peck with a drive over the right center field wall for his 10th home run of the season, and we had an 8-8 tie.

That’s where things stood in the late innings, and the SeaWolves’ Dariel Fregio did a nice job to shut down the Squirrels in the eighth and ninth, while the SeaWolves had two on with one out in the top of the ninth and couldn’t plate the go ahead run.
The SeaWolves couldn’t push across the runner on second in the 10th. Eric Silva got two quick outs, including the lead runner, in the bottom half, but a walk and then a double ended it.
Callahan: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR, BB, K, SB
Peck: 2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B, HR, BB, K
Liranzo: 1-3, R, 2 RBI, BB, 2K
Hunley: 3.1 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 7:05 p.m. ET start in Richmond on Saturday with the series tied up.
West Michigan Whitecaps 11, Dayton Dragons 10 (box)
You know this felt good after the six week the Whitecaps have had. On Friday night, it was their turn for a walkoff victory, as Andrew Sojka lifted a bases loaded sac fly to win on Friday night.
Carlos Marcano got the start, quickly surrendering a run in the first. Jackson Strong answered back with a solo shot in the bottom half to tie it up. Marcano gave up a solo shot in the top of the fourth, and while he’s one of my favorite fringe prospect pitchers, the whiffs have not come with his increased velo this year.
The Whitecaps ansewred back again as Ricardo Hurtado doubled and Clayton Campbell walked to start the bottom of the fourth. Samuel Gil singled in Hurtado, and Junior Tilien singled in Campbell and Gil for a 4-2 lead.
Things were looking good, but Preston Howey gave up a two singles and a walk to load the bases in the fifth. Carter Graham then launched a grand slam to right center field for a 6-4 Dayton lead.
Gil singled in Garrett Pennington in the bottom half to make it 6-5. Logan Berrier was a mess in the eighth and gave up up runs on a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk before Zack Lee came on to clean up the inning.
So it was 8-5 Dayton in the bottom of the eighth and things looked a bit grim. Gil and Tilien singled with ont and Andrew Sojka pinch-hit for Cristian Santana, singling to right field to score Gil. A two-run single from Luke Shliger tied the game back up at 8-8, but Lee allowed two in the top of the ninth.
So the Whitecaps needed one more rally. Jackson Strong got them started with a leadoff single, and Pennington singled Strong to third. A Hurtado sacrifice fly made it a 10-9 game, and Campbell then singled Pennington to third. Samuel Gil kept hope alive with a liner into center for a single that scored Pennington to tie the game. Campbell took third on that play, and the Dragons went to the bullpen and then walked Tilien to load the bases, hoping for a double play ball. Instead, Sojka lifted a fly ball out to Kien Vu in center field, and Campbell raced home as the walkoff winning run.

Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 9, Lakeland Flying Tigers 7 (F/10)(box)
This was a pretty entertaining back and forth affair on Friday evening, but the Mussels came out ahead in extra innings.
The Flying Tigers got on the board first in the bottom of the third. Hunter Dobbins doubled, and a wild pitch and a throwing error on catcher Enrique Jimenez, formerly a Tigers’ prospect, made it 1-0.
Ali Tanner was cruising along reasonably well despite an iffy day in terms of command. In the fourth, the Mussels got to him for two runs and knocked him out of the game.
The Flying Tigers reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Jack Goodman singled with two outs, and Dobbins launched his third home run of the year. 3-2 Lakeland.
They started to pull away in the sixth. Nick Dumesnil, Jordan Yost, and Edian Espinal started the inning with singles, with the third scoring Dumesnil. Espinal stole second to put both runners in scoring position, and Carson Rucker came through with a two-run single to make it 6-2 Lakeland.
Unfortunately, Luke Hoskins allowed a three-run shot to Jimenez in the seventh to cut the lead to one, and Andrew Pogue gave up a two-run shot in the eighth to blow the lead.
Dumesnil walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Jordan Yost grounded out, moving Dumesnil to third after a blown pickoff play had allowed him to take second. A grounder from Espinal saw Dumesnil thrown out at the plate. Espinal stole second and Zach MacDonald reached on an error and then stole second. A wild pitch followed to plate Espinal and tie the game, but Anibal Salas struck out to end the inning with the game knotted at seven apiece.
Pedro Garcia game up a pair of RBI doubles in the top of the 10th. The Flying Tigers couldn’t get the runner home.
Dobbins: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR, K
Espinal: 1-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB
Dumesnil: 1-4, R, BB, K
Tanner: 3.1 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 6:00 p.m. ET start in Lakeland on Saturday.
FCL Yankees 11, FCL Tigers 7 (box)
This one was notable because LHP Paul Wilson, the Tigers 2023 third round pick, made a one inning, scoreless rehab appearance with a walk and a strikeout. The southpaw has been plagued with injuries and only threw 6.1 innings in the spring of 2025, so it’s just good to see him return from the Tigers’ lengthy injury list.
Angel de los Santos: 2-5, R, BB, SB
Maikol Orozco: 3-6, R, RBI, 3 K
Johnathan Rogers: 2.1 IP, ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 4 K
