The Chicago White Sox are likely to buy at this year's MLB trade deadline, but since this team isn't fully ready to go all-in, rentals aren't at the top of their wish list.

Instead, the White Sox's ideal deadline addition would be in the form of controllable players. With a focus on starting pitchers, the Los Angeles Angels' 4.13 ERA starter, Reid Detmers, was emerging as one of their best trade targets.

Unfortunately, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan shared an update on the trade percentage for Detmers, revealing he has just a 20% chance of being dealt despite the Angels GM change, as executives are "skeptical" the Angels will sell this summer.

"Chance of being traded: 20%," McDaniel and Passan write. "... Of course, it's the Angels, so executives are skeptical that it will happen."

Since the Angels have held their trade chips so close to their chest over the years, it would hardly be a surprise, even with John Mozeliak taking over mid-season for Perry Minasian, if the Angels didn't sell anyone notable.

Any player who's a free agent after the season could be moved, but players like Detmers, who is under control through the 2028 season, are not looking likely to be dealt.

Detmers has a 4.13 ERA this season after coming back down to earth following a very good June. However, he's still someone worth trading for if the White Sox could pull it off.

A 26-year-old pitcher who is under club control for the next 2.5 seasons would be exactly what the White Sox would love to add at this year's deadline.

With buzz building around Detmers, the White Sox were a natural suitor. But now, it's looking like the White Sox will need to change their plans and target some other controllable starting pitcher.

This update from ESPN isn't what the White Sox will like to hear, as their trade odds for Detmers, one of the best controllable starters available this season, are at just 20%, with executives around baseball skeptical of a deal occurring.
