Nine central Ohio high school softball teams extended their seasons May 28 with regional semifinal wins, and six of them will face off May 29 with state tournament berths on the lines.

One of those games ended up in the history books for its longevity.

Here is a recap of regional semifinals involving Columbus-area teams:

Division I

Grove City 5, Cincinnati Oak Hills 4 (18 inn.)

Addy Schilling’s RBI single in the bottom of the 18th inning scored Emmy Phillips in a Region 1 semifinal at London, ending the 12th-longest game in state history, according to Ohio High School Athletic Association records, and sending the Greyhounds (19-10) into their second consecutive regional final.

The game was tied at 1 after seven innings, and both teams scored a run each in the 11th, 13th and 15th.

Schilling and Ava Blount each had three hits for Grove City, which will play Lancaster in the regional final May 29 at Olentangy. Sydney McBride doubled and tripled.

Stephanie Dent threw 17 innings, striking out 17, walking three and giving up 13 hits on 255 pitches.

Lancaster 5, Lakewood 1

A four-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles for Alieya Garner and Jojo Sheets – the latter of which scored two runs – powered the Golden Gales (22-7) in a Region 1 semifinal at Olentangy.

Kendall Brown had two of Lancaster’s seven hits.

Starting pitcher Kileigh Rohr and reliever Mackenzie Hedrick combined to scatter three hits and strike out one.

Riley Williams’ solo home run in the top of the fourth staked Lakewood (18-12), which was appearing in its first Division I regional, to a 1-0 lead.

Gahanna Lincoln 12, Olentangy 6

Three Gahanna players collected at least three hits, and the Lions (24-5) scored six times in the fifth inning of a Region 2 semifinal at Big Walnut to pull away from Olentangy (22-7).

Aubrey Yekisa was 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Amira Evans’ three hits included a double and home run, and Bella Costa added three hits and four RBIs as Gahanna advanced to the regional final May 29 against Hilliard Bradley.

Addi Hulshof, Mimi Dipiero and Grace Yanez each had two hits and Yanez homered for Olentangy.

Hilliard Bradley 10, Dublin Coffman 0 (5 inn.)

Sammie Moody had two singles and four RBIs to lead Bradley (24-5) to a run-rule win over OCC-Central foe Coffman in the first Region 2 semifinal.

Moody had a two-run single in the second inning, an RBI single in the fifth and scored the final run on a passed ball in the fifth.

Sophia Lopez went 3-for-3 and tripled for Bradley, which outhit Coffman 12-4.

The Shamrocks (17-12) were appearing in their first regional since 1983.

Division II

Green 3, Mount Vernon 1 (11 inn.)

Jocelyn Scarbury struck out 22 in 10⅓ innings and allowed just four hits and three runs, but two of those came in the 11th inning of a Region 8 semifinal loss at Bellville Clear Fork that dashed the Yellow Jackets’ hopes of returning to the Division II state final.

Mount Vernon (25-5) scored its only run in the second inning on a walk and two sacrifices.

Scarbury and Keely Pollard each had two of Mount Vernon’s six hits.

Division III

Bloom-Carroll 3, Dover 2

Emma Brandt struck out 12 and delivered a key two-run single in the third inning to help the Bulldogs (23-4) oust defending state champion Dover in Region 12 at Berne Union.

A Madelyn Gates double preceded Brandt’s hit, which put Bloom-Carroll ahead for good and avenged a 2025 regional final loss to the Tornadoes.

Maddi Walters homered to lead off the fifth. Gates finished with three hits, advancing the Bulldogs into the regional final against Jonathan Alder on May 29 at Berne Union.

Jonathan Alder 11, Dresden Tri-Valley 4

Two home runs, three hits and six RBIs from Kennedy Williams and three hits each from Logan Donaldson, Maggie McCoy and Owyn Johnson fueled the Pioneers’ win over Tri-Valley in the second semifinal.

Williams had a three-run home run in the first, and Williams and Goldie Bowsher each homered in a four-run third that put Alder ahead for good.

Bowsher and McCoy each finished with two RBIs as the Pioneers (17-11) continued a dominant postseason. Alder has outscored three tournament opponents 45-12.

Division IV

Licking Valley 14, Cadiz Harrison Central 0 (5 inn.)

Emory Whisner nearly hit for the cycle, homering in the third inning, doubling twice and singling once as the Panthers (25-0) routed Harrison Central in Region 13 at Duncan Falls Philo.

Whisner was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and struck out seven in a complete-game win.

Eleven of Valley’s 14 hits were for extra bases. Madison Evans and Dani Lambert added home runs.

Division VI

West Jefferson 4, Beaver Eastern 1

Missouri commit Jenna Mannon struck out 12, and the Roughriders (23-5) scored three runs in the sixth inning of a Region 24 semifinal at Pickerington Central.

Maddie Carruthers drew a leadoff walk to start the sixth and scored on Lacy Dunigan’s single. Mia Burgett tripled in Dunigan and Kyrha Hall.

Burgett also had an RBI single in the third.

West Jefferson will play Sugarcreek Garaway (26-5) in the regional final May 29 at Central.

Danville 12, Ada 2

Ruby Bartok’s four hits – a solo home run in the third inning and three singles – helped the Blue Devils (22-5) roll past Ada in Region 23 at Bellefontaine.

Liz John also homered in the third and Addy Bocock struck out 13, advancing Danville into the regional final May 30 against New Madison Tri-Village (22-5).
