The winner of the largest FIFA World Cup in history will be crowned on American soil this week.

On Sunday, July 19, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.

The home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets is located about 13 miles from New York City across the Hudson River and state lines in New Jersey. MetLife, which FIFA is calling New York/ New Jersey Stadium, has already hosted seven other World Cup matches this tournament: five group stage games and two knockout games.

Neither Spain nor Argentina played at MetLife Stadium on their road to the final, so Sunday will be the first game at the stadium for both teams.

MetLife Stadium has a fan capacity of 80,663 for the World Cup and has consistently attracted capacity crowds throughout the tournament. But it does not have a roof, leaving potential for a weather delay to impact the World Cup final.

MetLife Stadium typically uses an artificial turf playing surface but was retrofitted with a grass field for the World Cup, which has drawn critical reviews from some players. That hasn't stopped FIFA from selling pieces of the World Cup final field.
