There are multiple top quarterback lists emerging as the 2026 season gets a bit closer, and there is a somewhat general consensus about Notre Dame’s CJ Carr.
The second-year starter is coming off quite an impressive first season, and has plenty of hype. Recently, 247Sports ranked its top-10 quarterbacks entering the season and put Carr at No. 7 which is a bit lower than others. He’s been typically ranked inside the top-5, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Ohio State’s Julian Saying, Oregon’s Dante Moore, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Texas’ Arch Manning and USC’s Jayden Maiava all were ranked ahead of Carr. Grant Hughes who compiled the list with help from some of his CBS Sports teammates noted that the Irish’s “running game will take a step back,” but also that “Notre Dame has arguably the softest schedule of any CFP (College Football Playoff) contender in 2026.
Danny Kanell helped break down Carr’s game saying “I was blown away with how comfortable Carr was operating the Notre Dame system as a freshman quarterback. He’s going to get even better,” which is exactly what many expect in South Bend.
Carr should put up some big time numbers once again this fall, and that should put him in contention for multiple national awards.
