The Oklahoma Sooners came up short in their bid to return to the Women's College World Series for the 10th consecutive time, losing to Mississippi State in the super regionals. The Sooners fell to No. 10 in Softball America's final top 25 for the 2026 season.

Oklahoma entered the postseason as the No. 1 team in the nation and cruised through the regional round before facing a tough Mississippi State team.

While it wasn't the season Oklahoma was hoping for, they still won 50 games and will bring back the majority of their lineup and their pitching staff. The Sooners won the SEC regular season title, but need more consistency from the circle and the plate in 2027 if they want to get back to Oklahoma City.

After winning their second straight national championship, the Texas Longhorns finished the season as the No. 1 team in the nation followed by back-to-back runner up, Texas Tech. Alabama and Tennessee follow at three and four with Nebraska rounding out the top five.

UCLA, after a historic season at the plate, finishes the year at No. 6, followed by No. 7 Arkansas, Mississippi State at No. 8, Florida at No. 9 and the Sooners to round out the top 10.

10 SEC teams were featured in the top 25, with nine ranked in the top 16 and seven in the top 10.

In 2027, the Sooners will be one of the favorites to make it to the Women's College World Series despite falling short this season. Texas will be the team to beat with Teagan Kavan and a big part of their corps returning for 2027.

Here's a look at the final top 25 for 2026.
