With free agency a couple weeks away, we check in on the Raiders’ interior defensive line to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.
Backups: JJ Pegues, Brodric Martin, Treven Ma’ae
Free agents: Thomas Booker
Butler signed a new deal last offseason, his first long term deal since his rookie contract. The result was his number went down across the board from his career year in 2024. He had four fewer sacks (1.0), five fewer QB hits (five), five fewer tackles for loss (three, and 15 fewer tackles (50). Laulu also didn’t a take forward from the promise he showed in 2024. Rookie Tonka Hemingway showed some promise with four sacks.
The Raiders are still without a force in the middle. They are also switching to 3-4, which means they could look for at least one addition who would fit that scheme. Tyree Wilson might also slot into this group as a 5-tech DE along with Butler and Hemingway. There’s just a lot of uncertainty here and they simply aren’t good enough to settle for what they have and not try to add an upgrade.
