The NFL draft has finally arrived and in just a few hours the New Orleans Saints are expected to make their first selection of the evening. Barring any trades, the team currently holds the No. 9 overall pick in the first round—a valuable position in a class filled with top-tier talent.
To project the timing of the selection, it’s helpful to reflect on last year’s draft. In 2024, the Chicago Bears held the No. 9 pick and used it to select former Washington Huskies wide receiver Rome Odunze, officially submitting the pick at approximately 8:10 p.m. CT. If the pace of selections remains consistent and there are no significant interruptions, we can expect the Saints to be on the clock at roughly the same time.
However, draft night rarely unfolds without surprises. With increased speculation around teams potentially trading into the top 10 to secure franchise-altering talent, there’s always the off chance that the order of the selections could change. While the Saints have historically been reluctant to trade down, the arrival of a new coaching staff could signal a philosophical shift, ultimately making them more open to moving up or down the board.
With that said, if the Saints remain at No. 9, expect their pick to come in between 8:05 and 8:15 p.m. CT. However, as always, flexibility is key on draft night. Whether they stay put or shake things up via trade, the Saints’ first-round pick will be critical in giving fans a glimpse of hope for their team's future. You can watch the draft on NFL Network, ESPN and ABC when it kicks off at 7 p.m. CT.
