What move does PFF like most from the Vikings in free agency?

The Minnesota Vikings were frugal in free agency, instead focusing on cutting contracts and moving money around to free up cap space. But one addition could change the Vikings' fortunes in 2026 and beyond.

On the second day of free agency, Minnesota signed Kyler Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick. Murray had been released by the Arizona Cardinals, who are set to pay him $36.8 million this year.

That allowed the Vikings to sign Murray for a mere $1.3 million, likely giving them their new QB1 with the benefits of a league-minimum contract.

Zoltán Buday of PFF labeled it his favorite free-agency signing by the Vikings.

The Vikings get a one-year trial of Murray at the veteran minimum after the Cardinals released him. There is nothing Minnesota could lose from this move, considering the very minimal financial implications. On the other hand, if Murray finds his old form, he should be Minnesota’s starting quarterback beyond just this season.

Murray only played five games in 2025 due to a foot injury and a possible "soft benching." However, he is one year removed from starting all 17 games in 2024, completing 68.8% of his passes for 3,851 yards and 21 touchdowns.

If he can play anywhere near that form with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson at his disposal, Murray could lead the Vikings on a deep playoff run.
