Vikings QB contract listed as one most likely to overachieve

The Minnesota Vikings are hoping that's what they'll get with Kyler Murray in 2026. They signed the quarterback to a one-year, $1.3 million deal in March. The deal prohibits the Vikings from placing the franchise or transition tag on Murray following the season, making him a free agent in 2027.

That means, whether it's from Minnesota or someone else, Murray could be landing a massive payday next year. Ben Arthur of FOX Sports believes that Murray will have the best "contract year" of anyone in the NFL this season because of the supporting cast around him.

If Kyler Murray beats out 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy for the starting quarterback job, the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback will be positioned to thrive. He’ll have the best supporting cast of his career, highlighted by superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Head coach Kevin O’Connell is also well-regarded as a quarterback guru, helping Sam Darnold earn a three-year, $100.5 million deal when he was in a similar situation a few years ago.

A bounce-back season for Murray could help heal O'Connell and the Vikings' ego one year after allowing Darnold to leave via free agency and immediately win a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks.

If Murray delivers, Minnesota should make sure they don't repeat the mistake they made in the spring of 2025.
